How much is it to buy and install power steering?

Honda 98 civic cx

Has no power steering.

It would be a major undertaking. The front suspension would have to be re-done, add the pump & the steering box - Would probably be cheaper in the long run to trade it in on one that came from the factory with it.

Rick29148 is correct. It's not a practical proposition. Trade the car in.

It's very easy, if admittedly prohibitively expensive. I "upgraded" my old 1998 Civic HX from power to non-power-assist steering for better steering feel and better gas mileage. To do the opposite, you will need a parts car with power steering (an EX or HX) to cannibalize, or just buy new parts. You will need the steering rack ($800), all hydraulic lines (preferably new -$300), the pump and pulley itself( $600), new tie rod ends, new belts, and of course, genuine Honda power steering fluid (Hondas use a unique type of fluid). It shouldn't cost you more than $2,500 for all the parts and labor - it's a 4+ hour job just for the rack.

Bottom line - live with it, chump.

Short answer; more than it would cost to buy a 98 Civic that already has power steering.

CX wasn't designed to have power-steering (economy model) and therefore it doesn't need it.
It's more practical to buy another car with power-steering.
