Just fixed a blown head gasket?
It's a 1998 honda civic ex 1.6L vtec just basically got everything back together. Nervous to start it back up. Basically my question is how can I get the air bubbles out of my radiator if there's any. Just want to make sure the antifreeze is flowing correctly
Remove the upper hose and fill the radiator with fluids. Stop when fluid comes from the block side of the upper hose.
Some vehicles need to have the coolant refilled at a garage. Check the web for information pertaining to your particular engine and this subject.
Use ONLY GENUINE HONDA COOLANT and not PRESTONE or auto store JUNK coolants! Some have BLEEDER VALVE on the thermostat cover. Leave RAD CAP Off and idle at TWO TIMES idle speed, about 200 RPM for several minutes! This should allow AIR to escape easily! BYE NOW!
Could you tell why the first gasket blew? Hopefully not a warp in the head or it will blow again if you didn't get the head/block resurfaced.
Put your heater on high temp. Fan speed is not in play. Start engine. Let warm. Once warm, open bleed valve on the t-stat to 1/2 turn. Closing the bleed valve when nothing but coolent comes out. Then check level again once engine has cooled to the point you can remove the rad cap w/o spraying coolent. Repat proccess if needed.

FYI,
not to contradict the manual, but i'd do it in the order of the manual first. Engine not running/squeezing hoses and such. Then do it again in the order i listed. Done only by the book, "statically" air may still be trapped in the system w/o the water pump turning and since this was a head gasket repair. So a *dynamic* (engine running) bleed if you will, maybe needed after. But to ensure no overheat, do it per book first. I'm merely suggesting a second bleeding. After engine is hot.
- Would it be, a bad idea for me to try and fix a blown head gasket? Its for a honda. Stock d16 aftermarket rims and is 1500 with a blown head gasket. My dad is the best honda mechanic in my town. He would be guiding me through it. Also the car had 137k miles and good paint. How much would it be worth if it was fixed?
- How much is an 89 honda prelude si with blown head gasket worth? I have an 89 honda prelude si with almost 200k miles on it. Interior 10/10 exterior a 6/10. Head gasket is blown but still runs and drives good. All stock. How much is it worth? In boise id by the way
- How dangerous is a blown head gasket? I have a honda integra 1990 had a recent radiator problem lots of over heating all fixed now. Just discovered recently my head gasket is blown just curious is it worth replacing? What does it exactly do when its blown?
- Honda Civic 2000 blown head gasket. Worth fixing? I have a Honda Civic 2000 4door and I believe I had blown a head gasket. It isn't running and its leaking water/coolant. I'm not sure if it is worth fixing or just selling and moving on. Also not sure how much it would be.
