Power steering system and drive shaft assembly?
I brought my car honda civic 2008 at honda service center for full maintenance including over all inspection to it, 2 major problem report that they emailed me caught in my attention because it cost me a lot of money, one is to replace my whole power steering system (power steering pump, hose and rack) and drive shaft assembly which causing a vibration at my car… And i tried find a way to an alternative option to it, upon searching at the net one i notice is for my power steering system, due to leaking can i applied a power steering stop leak for my car and regarding my drive shaft what else any option to it instead to replace it… Many thank you!
The first thing you need to do is find out where it is leaking, and how bad it is leaking. If it is just a couple drops a day yes stop leak will work, but if it is leaking more than that no stop leak will not work.
As far as the drive shaft goes, you need to find out if it is bent. If it is bent it has to be placed, and in some cases they can be balanced but I recommend replacement.
- Prius: Can someone explain the power usage meter & specific difference between power mode and Eco mode? My brother just got me a Prius to replace my old beater Honda and I'm having difficulty understanding the power usage meter (meter on dash with "Charge-Eco-Power") and the difference in the Eco & Power modes. I do understand the charge bit on the meter.
- Is the 1985 Honda CR 500 water pump gear shaft compatible with the 86-2001 Honda CR 500 water pump gear shaft? I have a 1985 CR 500 and the water pump gear shaft broke. It has been discontinued from Honda, and no one else has it. It is a metal gear. The one's for the 1986-2001 CR 500 are plastic. If I have to use plastic, I will. However, I prefer not to. If anyone knows where I can get the OEM 1985 Honda CR 500 gear shaft, I would forever be grateful.
- Does power steering fluid get hot if the car is just running and the steering isn't being used? If the pump is just spinning, recirculating fluid and nothing else… Would it still get hot? I had to bypass the pump from the rack and have the fluid recirculate. Would the pump get hot from just spinning? I know 8th gen Honda's don't have a cooler for the power steering anyways.
- What would cause power steering fluid to leak out of an input shaft seal? Would replacing the seal fix this issue? I don't see why fluid is even entering the steering gear/shaft area anyways. I thought it doesn't. 2008 Honda Civic coupe
