Should I buy an 04 civic automatic?

Found a great deal on an 04 Honda civic. Hearing nightmares about this generation s automatic transmissions. 01 seems to be the worst year. Does anyone have any experience with these cars that can give me some advice? Car has 132k miles. Transmission is in great shape now.

If it is fine now and a great deal, that is all you can ask.

The car has 132K miles on it and is an 2004. You can expect some repair costs simply from the age of the vehicle.
The average lifespan of a transmission is 100,000 (regardless of the car)… Yours might go for 250K miles or it might die at 133K… No one has a crystal ball and can tell.
- there are things that owners can do to improve the life expectancy of a motor. If this car has had multiple owners, you shouldn't expect that those have been done.

Have you had the car checked out by a mechanic?
How great is the price?

Have a trusted mechanic check it for you. I had a 2001 Honda Stream for a while (based on the Civic) and the Automatic started going wrong around 60,000 miles, the seals kept breaking up on one of the driveshafts like once a year even. Then at 87,000 miles the torque converter actually failed.

You really need to be looking at a 2006 model to be out of the problem area.

You are looking at a 14 year old car. If the transmission is not broken now, it will break soon or it will make it past 200k. Roll the dice.

No -buy a standard to test the tranny. Never go to the gay part of town as trannies are usually bad

  • Honda Amaze automatic or Hyundai Xcent automatic? Which would be better purely in terms of performance, acceleration, smooth and fast gearshifts and handling, i mean the better drivers car. I know hondas transmission and engines are great, but is the hyundai as good too? Even though the xcent has only 4 gears, i.e. 1 less than the amaze, it has tiptronic, would this by any chance improve the driving experience? I sadly don't have the opportunity to test drive these cars.
  • Will starter from an automatic 2000 Honda civic LX fit on a automatic 2000 Honda civic HX? The lx is a 5 gear transmission and the hx is a CVT transmission. With the starter fit? Mine went out on my hx
  • What tires should I buy for my 8th gen Honda Civic Si Coupe? I recently purchased an 8th generation Honda Civic Si Coupe. I would like to know, what are a good set of tires for it? I have the special edition wheels. I think they are 17 inches. Everything on the car is stock.
