Squealing '04 Honda Civic?

Okay so my car makes a very high pitched squealing sound whenever I start it and turn the steering wheel, even it is in park and I turn the wheel it squeals! This stops after I pick up speed and usually only happens when the car has been sitting overnight or when I get off work.

Also a little background I very recently had my head gasket replaced about 6 weeks ago and my timing belt was done in the last two years.

You may need to replace the serpentine belt or the power steering pump.

Either the belt (or belts) that drive the accessories on the engine are loose or worn. Some cars have automatic belt tensioners, others have to be tightened manually. Regardless which you have, the problem is most likely an issue with the belt. Bill suggested the possibility of a bad power steering pump, and yes, that COULD be the culprit, but that's somewhat lower on the probability list. I'd say (just guessing) "it's a bad belt" to be 95% likely, and "it's a bad pump" to be 5% likely.

Better to check (or even replace) the belt. Since you had engine work done there's a possibility the mechanic didn't tighten the belts properly (if manually tightened). Even serpentine belts have tensioners that are (some) automatic, (some) manually tightened.

Hope this helps.
