What's you opinion on this 2014 Honda Civic Si?

Before you answer that question here's a little to think about on my end. I'm 21 and my 01 Pontiac Sunfire has been amazing to me, but I'm traveling to New York to start a new life, and with that a new car. I happened to see a 2014 Honda Civic Si for 19,500$ with 13k miles on it (25,500$ is the grand total with everything I want). It has everything from the weather mats to a vinyl wrapped hood for that feel of being different. Going from 115hp on my Pontiac to a 205HP manual Honda is a dream come true! I also want low insurance and good mpg, so v6 and v8 enthusiast need not apply. I took a test drive on the highway with it and I got about 40mpg(when shifting right) and about 28-32mpg in the city which is right up my ally. My insurance they said it would be about 200 monthly and the car payments would be about 350. Is this a good deal?

OK first thing - the EPA ratings on a 2014 Civic Si are 22/31. There's no way you are going to get 28-32 in the city and 40 on the highway, if you are really careful you might do a little better than the EPA numbers, but not 30% better. I assume you are using the computer readout for your numbers - trust someone who has cars with this feature that those numbers are always optimistic. Also note that premium fuel is required on the Si - so don't cheap out and use regular when it's designed for premium - if you do the power and economy will both suffer, as could the long term durability. So - that said, nice car choice. I can't comment on the payments since you didn't give the terms, but insurance is pretty high, and I'm curious about how you are getting a used car up 6K in options - for what? If the 25.5 is including tax and reg that's about 2K, what is the other 4K for? Mats and the wrapped hood (a total waste of money IMHO) don't cost that much.

If you were my son (and I have one your age), I would encourage you to get a regular Civic - drop from the Si to an EX and you'll save thousands up front plus the insurance will be considerably less. Or go for something else entirely - you can get a brand new Fit with a 6 speed and a sunroof and a warranty for considerably less than this and it will cost less to insure too.

So sorry if it sounds like I'm raining on your parade - I really like the car, but it doesn't seem like a good choice for you - maybe when you are older and aren't facing young person insurance rates.

Yes but if you are going to live in a city do you need a car. Why not just hire one when you need to go somewhere.

  • What is your opinion of the Honda Ridgeline vs Toyota Tacoma? Currently, I'm contemplating the purchase of a 2012 Ridgeline 22,500 miles and a 2014 Tacoma 14,000 miles Price and features are nearly identical. Thoughts?

  • Need a honest opinion on new honda cb unicorn? I'm thinking of buying a new bike and this is my first bike. But i'm confused which one should i buy and by the way i'm looking for a 150 cc bike which should have a good fuel efficiency. I thought of buying unicorn but so many people said the newly launched unicorn ie, CBunicorn has so many cons like alignment, chain loose etc. So i need a honest opinion on new cb unicorn. • What is better a 2014 Honda Civic or 2014 Toyota Corolla? I'm looking at these cars in terms of price and more "bang for your buck." Both seem interesting to me and I have yet to test drive them. The Honda Civic seems like it is the better car based on reviews but the newly redesigned Toyota Corolla looks better than previous versions and is slightly cheaper than the Civic. Which one should I consider looking towards? Please do not mention any other car, I'm only focused on these two at the moment.
