Is a Honda Civic Hatchback good in the snow, or should I get a CRV instead?

I live in Ontario up North and we got a lot of snow this year. I was driving a 2005 Altima FWD with winter tires. I got stuck many times, lost grip on the road many times. The snow ate up half the car when it snowed a lot.

I was wondering to get the civic hatchback 2019, but I don't want to get stuck in snow again. I was wondering if the CRV AWD would be better in the winter and safer in general

Personally I think that front wheek drive vehicles are overrated, I would take a rear wheel drive over front any day for a few different reasons. 1-weight transfer. When you accelerate, it takes the weight and traction off of your front tires and shifts the weight to the rear. 2-Steering. When your front tires start spinning, you also greatly loose youre ability to steer which direction the vehicle will go. For snow, RWD, 4WD or AWD is the way to go.

If the Altima became stuck repeatedly, it sounds like you have an issue with ground clearance ( I'm assuming that is what you meant by "the snow ate up half the car" ) . If that is the case, a vehicle that sits up higher off of the ground would help. A Honda Civic sits pretty low and would have the same issues as your current Altima.

The Honda Civic sits lower than your Altima and would be a poor choice for driving in the snow. Get the Honda CRV with AWD which will be good in the snow.
