Are the Honda CBR500R and CB500F good beginner bikes?

I weigh below 120lbs and most people tell me to start out on the Honda 300. But I'm afraid I'll grow out of it within three to six months. Maybe less than three. I've heard the Honda 500 still rides easy for beginners. It can also get up to highway speeds, 60-75mph without revving up to the red line. I feel if I get a 250cc or 300cc, I'll ruin the engine by traveling at high speeds. I live in a neighborhood just off a highway. What do you think? I think I could own the Honda 500 for up to a year, maybe 9 or 10 months and then trade it in for the Honda CBR600RR or the Honda Interceptor. If I start out on a bike that's powerful but still very manageable and controllable for a beginner, I could progress to a high cc bike very fast. In the end I will definitely want the Honda CBR1000RR and a Harley cruiser. P.S. I took a look at Suzuki, Yamaha and Kawasaki bikes, I liked Honda the most for every bike they had. From the 250cc's to the 1000 cc's. I like Honda motorcycles.

The 500s are a great idea for a starter bike
CB600RR great for a focussed bike wanted for very short road rides and occasional track days.
I have been riding bikes for 38 years. I have had Suzuki, Kawasaki and Yamaha but never found a Honda when looking for a new bike that did what I wanted better than something from the other 3. I currently have 3 Suzukis. One of those is a car as I have been so impressed by the bikes over the years I got one of their cars too.

The Honda CB1000RR is now very long in the tooth for a litre sports bike, as is the GSX1000R. Currently the Kawasaki and Yamaha litre sports bikes are the best along with the BMW and also the Aprillia but only if you are quite small in stature

The "best" bike for you is the one that "fits" you… When astride a bike, both feet must be flat on the ground, and your arms can't stretch to reach the controls ; any bike that does not fit like that is not the one for you - it's unsafe to ride

I think you do not know about middleweight motorcycles. I ride a Vespa LX150, about 25% of my miles are on the freeways doing 60-65+ mph. Running at high speeds does not ruin a motor. Ignoring maintenance does. Many people do Iron But runs on 250cc motorcycles.

Get the bigger and heavier bike -- but get it to be able to do 120+ mph on the freeway, not because a smaller bike can't run at legal speeds.

You don't put your 3 year old son in a size 12 adult shoe, because it doesn't fit or work for him.

Same thing with learning how to ride. You don't put yourself on the fastest, quickest, most difficult bike to ride to learn. You use the proper tool and trade up as your skills increase.

If you really want to learn how to ride a motorcycle, take a training course, get your license and start on an appropriate beginner's bike. Most people should start on a 300cc machine. Some might be able to handle a somewhat larger machine. Taking the training course will give you an idea where your skills are.

In which case you are not doing it right.

  • What are the best beginner endurance bikes? I'm helping my lil cousin finding the perfect bike for him. Maybe something like a 125 cc and the brand Yamaha, Honda or Kawasaki? He weighs 50kg Please advise
  • What are good and cheap cruiser bikes? Under 4-5k? I'm looking for something similar to the honda rebel. I need it to hit 55- 60 miles per hours since the roads are spaced out where i'm from. And if i buy used should I trust a used motorcycle what should I look for? Detailed answers are much appreciated!
  • Ninja 300 or Honda CBR500r for beginner? I'm looking at getting a bike and the two that interest me are the Ninja 300 and the Honda CBR500r. Just want to know what you guys would pick and why? I'm leaning towards the Ninja 300. Like the looks of it better but i'm also 6'4'' and about 175 Lbs so that may be a little small in size, motor has plenty of powerful might be a little cramped though. But anyway, what are your thoughts?
