Should I use a silicone sealant and/or blue loctite when installing a stator on a motorcycle?
The stator recently went out on my 2003 Honda Shadow Spirit 750 and I'm currently waiting on the replacement stator to arrive. It's come to attention that some people use blue loctite when bolting in the stator into the case, then a silicone sealant around the case when re-bolting it to the bike. Is this necessary/recommended and what kind of sealant should I use for the case if I need some?
No to silicone.
Loctite 242 (the blue stuff) is a good plan. Works best if you make sure all is clean, dry, and you use primer (Loctite 7471).
Gasket can go on dry, or with a very thin coat of Permatex gasket sealant.
I have heard that Yamabond works very well, but have never tried it.
That engine cover does not use a paper gasket.
Permatex is junk.
Use quality silicon gasket.

- What order do the stator wires go? I have a 1989 honda vtr 250 I'm replacing the stator. There are 3 yellow wires that go from the stator to the rectifier, the stator I bought requires you to put the 3 yellow wires into the connector. However I don't know which wires go in where, I do not know the order, the wires are the same size and color. Does it matter which 3 of the yellow wires go to the 3 rectifier wires?
- What is the blue bag at the end of a dirt bike seat? I'm buying a 1984 Honda xr200. However it is missing a few small things like the blue bag at the end of the seat. What is it called and how much would it cost to buy one? I'm using it for small item storage like a water bottle, keys or my phone.

- If in the owners manual it says I should use 5W-20 motor oil, can I use 10W-40 motor oil instead? I have a 2009 Honda Fit. I just recently bought 10W-40 and when I got home to put oil in the manual said 5W-20. What's the difference? And is it okay if I still use the 10W-40?
