Thinking of getting my first BIKE (motorcycle) any suggestions?

I've been contemplating this for some time now, and I came to the conclusion that its time to buy a bike, I'm just not certain what would go with me, I'm 5'7 186lbs I have a thick build. So obvioudl I don't want a beast of a bike, something nice and simple

I've been looking at the Honda CB 750, 550, and 500 style café racers, also the Suzuki gt750 café racer.

Yes A café Racer is what I want, it just looks awesome, i'm going for a late 70's mid 80's bike. I've seen several of them and I just gotta have one. And they look perfect for a first bike.

any suggestions I should take a look into?
make/, model/year?

Get a Suzuki SV 650 which is best one.

Cafe racers are a thing of the past. They're from a time when most bikes were 'standards' and you bought a bike and fixed it up the way you wanted with aftermarket accessories. A bike that old is going to give you a lot of trouble. People who have vintage bikes don't usually ride them every day, they are for special occasions. Often they have just one problem after another, and while most of the problems are relatively small, you spend half your time waiting for parts. This is especially not what you want for a FIRST bike. You get your FIRST bike to learn to ride. Get a Suzuki SV 650 or Ninja 650, something like that, THEN look at older bikes.

Also, you want to be able to sit on a motorcycle with both feet flat on the ground. And especially your first bike. For people who are 'inseam challenged', like you, this can limit the range of choices somewhat. They publish seat heights in the specs, but the seats are all shaped differently so the only way really to tell is to find a model you're interested in and sit on it. Usually dealers and private sellers will let you do that. You can tell a LOT about how a bike fits you by just sitting on it.

First bike should be a nice and simple piece of machinery not an old-school beater-bobber.
As Mr. Smartpants suggested a Suzuki SV 650 is a NICE newer bike to learn on, cheaper to fix if needed and quite dependable.

Kawasaki Ninja 650

  • Any suggestions for a dirt bike? I'm 13 years old, 5 ft 1, 118 plbs and looking for a dirt bike. I have no experience biking. My friend who bikes every weekend, told me that Honda 85cc is a good bike for my age and body type.
  • I'm thinking about getting this kit? I've been wanting to build my honda trx70 beginners sport quad for racing for awhile now. I want to get the 110 kit for it, but i'm not sure if the transmission is going to handle that. And if the 110 kit will burn it up, is the 88 kit worth the money for the small amount of power increase? BTW it is a 4 stroke engine, 100% stock right now
  • I was thinking about getting a crossover? Honda cr-v or nissan rogue. I need a good car that is reliable. I have heard that the CR-V is better than the Rogue. Any thoughts?
  • I have a 04 honda civic lx coup that I want to do an engine swap on for a bit more power any suggestions? People have told me that the k series is the way to go cause i won't have that much fitting issues, I don't have that much money now but i'm not in any rush to do it i want to make sure its done right and little by little tune it so that it can be the best that it can be with out being to flashy with it any advise?
