What's a good beginner motorcycle?

So i want to get my motorcycle license soon, i have never driven a motorcycle in my life so what would be a good bike for beginners? I know how to drive a manual car so getting used to the gear changing shouldn't be to difficult. I was thinking about a Honda cbr300r.

The CBR 300 is a good choice. There's a class of motorcycles that are designed to be trainers--easy to learn, easy to ride--but are also good all-around motorcycles. CBR 300, Kawasaki Ninja 300, Yamaha R3, etc. They're all pretty good.

One thing, though. I think you shouldn't learn to ride on too new of a motorcycle. You're likely to be hard on your first bike, so it's good to learn on an 'old beater'. After 6 months or a year you can sell it and get the Bike of Your Dreams, plus by then you'll have a better idea what you really want. The CBR has been around since 2010, which is old enough, I guess.

If you can drive a manual shift car, you should have little trouble adapting. In a car you shift with your hand and brake with your foot, but on a bike it's the other way around. Still, if you understand how a clutch works, how to use it, you'll find it pretty easy.

Honda Rebel

The Honda cbr300r, as the same as Kawasaki Ninja 300, Yamaha R3, etc., are *NOT* beginner or "trainer" motorcycles -- those are middleweight motorcycles capable 100+mph, running any road, coast to coast.
A good beginner motorcycle would be a Honda Grom 125 or a SYM Classic Wolf 150.

Sporty bikes are designed to look like racing motorcycles, not something to be comfortable. *YOU* with lower knee pain, might consider a standard of cruiser -- something with an upright seating position.

Whatever! Before thinking about what motorcycle, take the MSF Basic Ridercourse Class -- you will learn the basics of riding a motorcycle. And you will find out if you even can ride -- not everyone can.

When you do get your motorcycle you want to pick one that matches where and why you will be riding.

I generally suggest a small 'enduro' style (street legal dirt bike) - 125-175cc.

They can take a lot more abuse, so when (not if) you drop it, you don't scratch up a shiny cruiser or shatter all of the plastic on a sport bike.

I highly suggest taking a rider training course - it can teach you important skills that might save your life.

The CBR 300 is a good enough starter, nothing special.

Hope you wish to take a MSF Basic Riders Course or similar to LEARN some basics, having a 100MPH motorcycle under your but can be tempting but the old 60-70s saying 'Speed Kills' wasn't refering to motorcycles.

It's a rather dangerous means of transportion so you better be ready.
Always stay 110% attentive and it does get worse as you learn to go faster.

Don't let the side of a car slap you in the face. PAY ATTENTION while riding.

  • Which motorcycle will be suitable for a beginner with little riding experience? I just recently took the MSF course and got my motorcycle endorsement. I want a bike I can ride for a year or two then eventually move to a cbr600rr. I plan to do some highway riding and computing within town. I'm 6'1 152 pounds, base on what I told you will you recommend the kawasaki ninja 300, the Yamaha R3, or the Honda cbr500r?
  • Which motorcycle should I get for a beginner? I'm planning on buying a motorcycle because I'm turning 16 soon and I need a vehicle to commute to and from school. Which bike is reliable for a starter? Honda CBR 125CC, Yamaha R125, Ninja Kawasaki 250R or other bikes? I'm also in a budget and looking for a bike around $2,000 and will not go over $2500. I'm also 5'11 and 155 LBS.
  • What would be the best motorcycle for a beginner? I'm about to get my license and a motorcycle, but I wanted to know, what would be the best bike for me. I wanted something that looks nice, and can do around 60-80 MPH or so. I was thinking of getting a Honda Grom, because I heard it wasn't too fast. Any recommendations?
  • What is a good beginner motorcycle? I'm 5'7, never drove a manual, so I'm going to take the msf course. I just wanted to ask if you consider a Honda cbr500r as a good beginner bike, because I'm going to be driving in the freeway, thanks in advance
