Which type of Motorcycle licence should I go for in the Uk and what Bike to purchase?

I'm never been on a motorcycle before, I'm over 24 and considering the direct access route or would it be better to do a test on a 125cc then wait 2 years to be able to go on bigger bikes, Is that A1?

I'm 6ft 6 and 16st, I was wondering what is the best bike to purchase, I was considering a Honda cbf but they look kinda small for somebody big, now i'm considering the yamaha wr125x as its pretty big and can go off road. But for that price a grand and a half more I could get a new 700cc.

Any advice or guidance welcome

Do the DAS course. The test on the 125cc is the A1, and it's pretty pointless. You might aswell do a CBT IF you choose that option, as the A1 test still only enables you to ride a maximum of 125cc (Just like the CBT). Only it has a few benefits, which is the ability to ride without L plates, use motorways and carry passengers. However, using motorways and carrying passengers on a 125cc isn't that fun. Therefore, in my opinion, it's a waste of time if you're old enough for the A2 or A category motorcycle test.

For someone your height, I would generally recommend a dual-sport / supermoto. Maybe something like the Suzuki DRZ400S or SM, or for something a bit less powerful… The Suzuki DR350. Being 6FT 6, you won't feel as cramped on these kind of motorcycles.

No. Do the DA course. You'll have a couple of days on a 125 then move to a 500. What you get once you have your test is up to you. I'd suggest something easy and fun an sv1000 or perhaps a speed triple. You need something comfortable so avoid sports ones for now and get some experience on something that won't cripple you after more than half an hour. Both those are big bikes but if you use your brain they'll be fine and I think you'll be safer than if you were scrunched up on a 500 or something.

If you've never ridden a bike before go and do CBT. If you like it then you can either get a 125cc and practice for a few months before going on to DAS, or go straight for DAS.

If you do a test on a 125cc you will get a full A1 licence and that does not automatically convert into a A or A2 or anything else after 2 years or in fact ever.
Either -
Get a 125cc and after doing a CBT ride around on that for a while on L plates and then do the direct access test for an unrestricted A licence
OR
Just go straight for the unrestricted A licence without bothering with 125

Have you considered the A2 Direct Access? Minimum age 19, Any cc No more than 35 kW.
First thing to do is check what Minimum size bike you need for the A2 and A Driving tests.
Then decide between the A2 and A Direct Access.
An A2 is any cc No more than 35 kW. This can either be a standard bike (Up to 500 cc +) Or a bigger one restricted to meet the Max 35 kW. Then when you go for you A licence you could use the same bike and De-Restrict it.
Or as you are over the 24 Minimum go Direct Access to your A licence, Any cc No restrictions.
