Honda Odyssey vs Mercedes R-Class?

We currently drive a Honda Odyssey- 2012, top of the line (Touring Elite). We like it, but we're bored. The Odyssey drives like the whale it is, it has a noisy cabin, it can be seen in every driveway in the neighborhood… But it is, overall, a great car.
All the same, we've been looking at a Mercedes R-Class. It's also a 2012, with just 23,000 miles. We like the features and handling after a test-drive, but there are a few hang-ups I'm hoping to have clarified.
1) Obviously, the Mercedes will be more expensive to repair… But just how much more expensive?
2) In terms of reliability, who wins: Honda or Mercedes?
3) In terms or resale value, who wins: Honda or Mercedes? (Worth noting the R-Class is no longer available new- which could have an effect either way.)

If you have no idea how expensive the repairs on a used Mercedes are, then you need to watch this video from a mechanic (46 years experience)

There's truly now way on this planet I would take on the responsibility of maintaining a used Mercedes or any Luxury car (BMW, Audi, etc).

Look @ Toyotas, but you will regret the repairs associated with those used luxury cars. Most are leased and dumped.

If you can afford to maintain the R-class go for it its a very good MPV i suggest the 3.0 V6 engine R280

1. Answer: Find out what independent mercedes shops in your area charge for an hourly work rate. Then find out how many hours and parts costs to service certain things at random like a broken alternator or transmission service etc. No one can tell you whether or not this particular car will be reliable but you should have it inspected before you purchase. A few hundred bucks for inspection can save you thousands in heartache in the long run.
2) Answer: In general Honda. Look up the Consumer Reports for this model and year vs Honda's offerings.
3) Answer: Honda. The R Class is discontinued, this will not help its resale.
