How to tie lumber to the roof of my car?

I have a honda odyssey, which is about 16 feet, 10 inches long. I want to transport 2 pieces of 16 foot long, 2" x 12" lumber. What is the safest way to secure these to the roof of my car? I can take back roads to and from the lumber storage place, so I will drive very slowly.

Roof rack.

Have them delivered. The damage you'll do to your car will cost you a lot more than what it would cost to have it delivered.

Even a roof rack won't help much. That long lumber will be swinging around all over the place. What happens when you stuff a board through someone else's car window and kill a child in a car seat?

Set of roof bars.
Secure then down with webbing straps not rope.
Use ratchet straps or camlock straps
Tie each down separately.

Make sure that they overhang equally at each end.
Drive slowly.

Smash out the windshield and rear window - insert lumber through car - secure with the seat belts and put a flag on the end of the lumber.

Or do what smarter car owners do and have it delivered.

I personally would mount something to the roof unless I had proper mounting points. For safety reasons, I would borrow a pickup truck or have it delivered.

Does anyone know where I could find a kit? Otherwise I was thinking of going to a salvage yard and pulling metal side rails off another car and cutting them shorter and welding them back together.   • Can two kayaks and a paddle board fit on the roof of a car? Hi. I just purchased two kayaks (the kind you sit on top of not inside of) at the spur of the moment last year and my family loves them. We were considering getting a (stand-up) paddle board as well but we wanted to make sure we could fit it on the roof along with the two kayaks. We use the J hooks for the kayaks on top of a Honda minivan. Would this work? If so, how?
