Trade in 2005 Saab 93 Linear for 2011 Honda CRZ at a dealership?

Normally I'm smart enough to confront my own issues, but I ll need some help on this one. My Saab has 145k miles and given the irreparable dent in the rear passenger door from the previous owner, and the crack in the bumper from when I spun out at 80mph on icy roads, not to mention the weirdly wired Halo LEDs and HID kit on the headlights as well as the aftermarket stereo and 12" subs, I'm having trouble establishing on whether or not I want to trade in this hot mess.
At a glance the dealer said my car was worth $1k upon inspecting the relic, they dropped their offer to $200. So I ll skip the 3 hours of haggling and get to the point.

I dropped the $290/mo initial cost of the 2011 Honda CRZ I'm looking at to $190/mo by having them essentially overvalue my car to $3500. That, given a 72 month payment plan gives me a rough $13600 as a total cost of the 46k miles CRZ. Now that s not fantastic, but comparatively it's a great deal as far as getting rid of my Saab which is, to be fair to the ol boy, just a black hole that sucks in money and returns a vaguely constant level of performance. Should I do the trade in? (Yes it's a certified Honda dealer, no I didn't sign any paperwork, I'm 21 years old with a short but good credit history)

It's a plus for you that the dealer is essentially reducing the price of the honda that much ( they don't care about the saab ; it will be sold to mexico ), but a minus that you will be paying that much for a vehicle that is 5 years old… If you have the $$ then go ahead BUT be sure that you will be 100% able to make those payments or else!

Also, it's a vehicle that was discontinued this year due to lack of interest. Unfortunately the cost falls roughly in line with the kbb value.

I would just do the deal, get rid of the car & enjoy the new car. Or you could try to sell it outright listing everything that is wrong to the next buyer in hopes someone might buy it. Better to just wash your hands of it & move on with your new ride

72 months for a 5 year old car for a 21 year old?

Bad idea even if you could qualify.

And chances are they aren't really giving you $3500 for your car. Which means selling it on your own would be better.

Any dealer can show a high amount by jacking up their price. Its not real money.

  • What is a sporty sedan that is similar to a Saab 9-3? I have had my eyes set on a Saab 9-3 for a while now but everyone says that repairs and maintenance on them is super difficult ever since they went out of business. I want to buy a car that is similar. Quick, stylish, slightly luxurious. I also don't want just an average car like a Honda Toyota etc… I'm willing to spend a little more as long as the price is reasonable. I'm also not trying to buy a 25,000 dollar car. Are there any cars that are similar?

  • Can I trade in an older car for a new one at a dealership? I have a Lexus SC400 1992 in decent condition. I want to trade it for a Honda fit 2015 or something similar. I need to finance the new car with monthly payments so I'm thinking the sc400 will cover most if not all of the down payment. How does this work normally? Do they accept trade ins this old?
