Check Engine light is on. San Jose, CA 1999 Honda Accord?
Any good auto shops that will do free engine checks? I see aamco and Maaco but I'm getting mixed reviews. Help would be appreciated.

As I mentioned in an earlier question (and you probably know but some answerers do not) only certified smog stations can read the codes in California. I didn't know about Maaco, but I knew about Aamco and Midas. I would trust them to retrieve the codes but not to recommend repairs. Interpreting the actual cause of the codes is tricky. If you can get the codes themselves (like P0171) we can give you more information.
In Wisconsin the Advance Auto and Auto Zone Parts Stores read OBD II codes for free. See if they do that out by you.
Better to get your own OBD2 code reader for half the price of a shop check. Some auto part stores will do the check free. AAMCO will sell you a rebuilt transmission and Maaco will paint the car, but they will not fix your problem.
- Check engine light, open door light, and batterie light all came on and won't go off? 2000 Honda Odyssey I already had the altinator replaced it a month old. The batterie almost a year old. Would the belt need be changed or something else?
- My check engine light was flashing yesterday and now it's off, and today my red oil change light was flashing earlier and then stopped? What does that mean? I drive a Honda Accord, if that helps. My car is driving fine (just a slight jerking every now and then, but that's another issue i'll get fixed). The fact that it did that then stopped worries me… Help?!
- IMA and Check Engine light on in 2005 Honda Accord Hybrid? I was driving for a good 30 minutes and then the IMA and Check Engine warning lights came on. When I got home I shut off my car and turned it back on and the IMA light was gone but the Check Engine light is still on.
- Check engine light is on, on my 1999 honda accord lx? The check engine light is on what should i do. The car has 185, xxx miles. The cars a stick shift so when i have it in neutral i noticed that the rpm stay on 1 then raise to 2 then just repeatedly does that? Is that normal? Anyone know the problem?
