I almost wrecked and even though I didn't its really messing with my head?

I drive a Honda Accord and I was almost smashed by a big 9 passenger company van that ran a stop sign. I know it was not my fault and I know it didn't happen, but I'm still very upset and I've cried a lot. I'm not sure why it's messing with me this much. I'm about to start my period so that may be why I'm so emotional but I'm also shaking and I got very light headed and I just want to go to bed.
I was not injured because we didn't collide, she stopped the van about a foot away from the middle of my car.

Thank you for sharing, I had an experience in which I got a speeding ticket and it messed with my head so much that I crashed into someone. All I remember is the adrenaline after hitting the poor individual. Afterwards I felt similar to you, even to the point of thinking twice before getting in a vehicle again. What happened to you is simply shock of what could have happened vs what actually happened. Do not worry you will get better, and you can start by resting and clearing your mind of what happened. I suggest you take a short ride after you feel relaxed to regain your confidence.

Other ways to think about it: (1) Thanks to many decades of technological improvements you are safer on the road now then ever before. (2) An angel of some sort is looking over you. (3) You were given another chance to be a great person (having not being killed). Don't waste it (4) You are right - your hormonal.

The fact that you now know you are not invincible has
slapped you and it is hard to realize that at a young age. Most of us are thinking we will live forever and
always be healthy. You were suddenly forced to see
that fact when you almost had an accident. You will
get over it.
