Can I back out of car lease due to difficult dealer?

I just leased a second vehicle with the same dealer yesterday. I'm very happy with the car, and I got a great deal; however, I'm upset about something. When I was signing the lease, the Finance Manager offered be a maintenance plan for $11 per month that covers all oil changes and maintenance. Based on the amount I drive, I think it would be worth it for me, but I didn't at the time. I called the Finance Manager today (my salesperson was out) and said I wanted to add the maintenance plan. He said he would have to redo the paperwork, and the cost would be $22 per month since the $11 promotion from Honda ended at the end of the month. To me, this is completely unacceptable not to honor what was disclosed to me, especially since he never explained that it would be my final decision. How can I go about getting them to honor the original offer? I'm thinking about returning the car and canceling the lease if they want to play hardball. The lease on my old car is not up until November, so I definitely have leverage.

First, you have no leverage. Second, you can't cancel your lease. Third, it's very common for car companies to have promotional deals that end on the last day of the month. I understand your being upset, but you made a decision not to buy the special maintenance deal, and now you want to blame the dealer. Not fair.

Stop whining. You signed the contract. You should know that this is final. They have to offer nothing. If you want the plan, then pay the extra 11 bucks and be thankful they're willing to redo the paperwork without charging you hundreds in admin fees. You can't just 'return the car' or 'cancel' the lease. It doesn't work that way. No you have no leverage. The dealer has no obligation to even TALK to you, let alone work anything out with you. They have no interest in the car from the second you sign. The lease company owns it now, not the dealer.

Get over it. Stop acting like an overly entitled whiny ****.

The contract has already been signed, so the deal is done. Tell the finance manager not to do any other paperwork, as you'll go with it as you both agreed.

I also drive a lot (in my case far too much for leasing to be a viable option), but how many oil changes and at what cost do you think you're going to need? And how many miles between oil changes would you need to go before you could get one covered under that plan? (For instance, for someone to get an oil change under BMW's free maintenance program, the dash light has to come on, which may not occur for over 10K miles). I think it'd be far easier and likely less expensive to cover the maintenance yourself, especially as you're leasing a Honda.

No you can't back out of the lease. You could pay the $22 maintenance monthly, but that's about the cost of an oil change, which usually comes 2-4 times per year, but you'll pay that each month.

How do you think you have leverage? The lease, once signed is between you and the leasing company, not you and the dealer. Leasing is a stupid way to gain the use of a vehicle, unless you're in sales or are a business and can write off the cost of your vehicle as a business expense.

Boo hoo, l not a good reason to be mad at the dealer
you were offered(he did not have to tell you it would expire, since you did say no)

lol, next you will be pizzed, because you won't be able to get out of your lease

You can't give the car back and promotions run out. Paperwork & time are not free either.

You can't back out of anything. You signed the lease and have the vehicle. It's a done deal. You declined the maintenance offer while it was valid. Grow up and stop whining.

You have no leverage at all.

You can't simply back out of a lease, you signed a legally binding contract and are stuck with it.

The dealer is in no way liable for you not taking advantage of something that was offered to you at the time of signing and you refused.

  • When you buy/lease a brand new car, are you able to add things/customize it at the dealer? In 2014 my friend financed a base model Jetta brand new red. However his model came with fog lights and LED turn signals but had hub caps. However, my other friend had a 2014 Jetta as well and had the middle trim and had no fog lights or LED turn signals but had aluminum alloy rims. Can you add things like that to a car? I know at Honda if I wanted Fog lights on the middle trim they would ask me to upgrade entirely to the highest trim which i don't need, I just want the fog lights
  • How difficult is it to rebuild my Honda Rebel Motorcycle transmission? It is an 06 Honda CMX250. There are broken fork shards inside the transmission (possibly the engine) and I don't have the money to take it in or get a new bike. I have past experience rebuilding since I rebuilt one that's exactly the same as this. I'm patient and willing to take my time to make sure everything is done right. How long would it take to take my transmission off my motorcycle, open up and clean and replace whatever parts needed?
