Being heavily steered towards getting a car however I want and know that a motorcycle is best for me?

I'm on a ~$4000 budget, which is perfect for a new Honda Cb300f or Cbr300r and seeing as I work a full-time minimum wage job, I just do not see a car being practical for me. Too expensive, gas, insurance, and I wouldn't even be getting a good car on my budget, I would be getting a car that has been driven to hell and looks like sh*t on my budget. I'm willing to take all Motorcycle safety classes and wear all protective gear, (I have been riding bicycles heavily to and from work/school for the past 5 years of my life), but my ignorant mom still insists me getting a piece of sh*t car is better for both me and her. I want to learn, I'm willing to learn however I just feel like this is best. Is that so bad? Or should I just continue on riding a bicycle well into my adult years?

I have been in bicycle clubs with people who don't have a car or motorcycle, just a bicycle. They usually take a bus to go shopping. When I lived in Hayward (CA) and worked at the Oakland airport I commuted by bicycle. It was nearly half an hour faster than the bus.

You should find out about motorcycle insurance. A friend in his 50s was quoted $300 per month by Geico.

Get the 300F.

I wanted a bike too, but I was also steered towards a car. So, I bought a cheap car, then a brand new bike. There are few places where it doesn't rain or snow, if you can't own both, a car makes more sense.

You should start with a cheaper motorcycle before spending all out on that expensive brand/model. Either way, safety precautions are expected to be higher with motorcycle riding versus cars.

Personally I bought a cheap motorcycle (1 grand) several years ago for summer and just bused in winter before I bought my truck then this past year I bought a beater truck for winter but the gas, insurance, and maintenance is killing me so I'll probably sell it come springtime and buy another in the fall. If I lived in a place where it didn't snow 6 months of the year there's no question that I'd get a motorcycle but if you can bike all year you could ride a motorcycle all year. Also I pay 1000$ a year for my truck insurance and only 200$ yearly for my motorcycle with bare minimum on both. And like someone said already don't get a brand new motorcycle until you know motorcycles because chances are you will sell it in a couple years and loose a couple grand for deprecation vs a couple hundred if you get bike that is a couple years old.

  • I've just turned 18 today and i'm gonna be getting a motorcycle what motorcycle would suit me? I'm only 90-95 pounds and I'm short what would be a good light weight cruiser around 250-300 pounds like my Honda Twinstar 185? I can't balance anything too big as i'm small, I need something that's lightweight, preferably Harley, but any work for me a bikes a bike, Thank you in advance! Note: My Honda Twinstar does not run my father had that bike since I was 7 or 8 and gave it to me when I was 9 but it sat out so long it doesn't work.

  • Can't decide on keeping my dirt bike or selling it and getting a motorcycle? I bought a 1986 yz125 and have been looking at a honda magna. I want to ride a bike on the road but i love offroading. Would it be smarter for me to just save up and find something some time in the future or should i sell the dirt bike and get the motorcycle. I enjoy and love my dirt bike but i also want to ride a motocycle on the road its restored
  • Can I buy a motorcycle from a dealer being under 16? If I go to a dealer can I buy a motorcycle if I don't get a loan on it. I live in California. Also what should I expect would they give me a hard time or ask my parents if they're sure about they're decision and make them sign papers. Or will it be simple and I could just walk out the door with my new Honda Grom. I pay for it in full cash could I get it?
