Best first sport bike on a budget?

I'm looking into buying my first sports bike. I have rode dirt bikes for about 4 years for fun but nothing serious like motocross. I'm looking in to getting a Honda cb500f because i feel like people get 250cc motorcycles as beginner bikes. Insinuating that when they get used to riding they will buy a new motorcycle that seems like a waste of close to 4000 dollars. Am i wrong for wanting to get a bike that will allow me to enjoy it for longer than when i just get used to riding it. Am i going about this wrong or is it a good idea. Also my state doesn't have a law against starting on a bike bigger than a 250cc. If i'm right is the 500f a good bike. Also i want to spend less than 6500 on it. Also i was wondering how bad do you get beat by the wind on the cb500f? Thank you for your time.

Added (1). my state does require me to take the skills test on a 250cc or less motorcycle so i will instead be taking the msf basic riders course and it also (along with giving me a great training) waives the skills test.

Guessing you forgot to mention the MSF Basic Riders Course you were going to take.
The CB 500 is a nice bike, maybe a bit large for a beginner but if you take is easy as you learn the street you should be fine.

Seriously, take the MSF course, it's well worth it in knowledge but it's more than well worth it in insurance rate savings. Those savings will pay for the cost of the course in about a year and help you save up more in the next few years to start thinking about a new bike.
Screw the wind, it blows and it even blows the big-boys around.

Before I read your detailed question, I immediately thought about the cb500. Low starting price, engine not too small and not too big, less aggressive riding stance. I'm not sure if it was the 500f but I read on Hondas sight that the bike had an adjustable windscreen. If not, then it's not too expensive to buy a bigger screen. If you want to save even more money they sell the cb300 at only 4,000. 300cc high performance engine is plenty of power too.

  • What's a good car with a $5000 budget? I don't know too much about cars even though my father is a mechanic. 19 year old guy with only 5000 for my first car. I like Honda's, BMW's, even Rx8's but I'm skeptical about picking a car. What are goods and bads about said cars? Any suggestions on specific cars that are reliable, hardly give problems, and look decent? Please and thank you in advance.
  • Which bike would be a good first sport bike. Looking at CBR1000/600's and also the yamaha R1/R6? I don't know much about the differences, I know some people are all for Suzuki, Yamaha, Honda, of Kawasaki. Seems that whatever bike someone has, they say its the best. I wish I could just ride all of them and see for myself. Tampa, FL Sam
  • What should I get for my first sport bike? I have been riding an old 1975 175xl Honda enduro for about a year now so I wouldn't consider myself a beginner but I I've been hearing that the 250 ninja is a great beginner bike and this will be my first Sport bike so this is the bike I have been looking at. Is this a good idea or will I go out grow it too fast? I'm about 135 pounds and 5'4 My price range is under 3000$ I'm open to any advice
  • Are sport bikes a lot slower than super sport? I used to have a honda cbr250 but sold it to pay for college. I want to get another bike after I graduate. I was looking at the Honda Cbr500R and the Honda 600RR. Obviously the super sport has a 100cc bigger engine, but is it a lot faster than the 500R? Even more so than you would expect with the 100cc increase due to gear ratio's etc etc?
