Getting a title for non-running motorcycle?
I'm looking to buy a motorcycle I found, its a 1982 Honda CX500. It doesn't have a title, and currently isn't running. From what I understand, the carbs just need cleaned, as the bike does crank and has compression.
The current owner claims to have proof of purchase that can hopefully be used to get a replacement title. I'm wondering though, will they still give him a clean title since the bike isn't currently running? And if not, what will it take for me to convert whatever title they give him into a clean title after I do my engine work? We're both located in Delaware.
Also, to anyone who is going to say its not worth it buying a bike without a title, the asking price is just too good to pass up.
A proof of purchase is worthless unless he has the original title. You are about to buy a motorcycle that you will never be able to get a title for unless you can find the original owner. I wouldn't do it if I were you.
A title is proof of ownership. The bike doesn't need to be running to get a title. Getting it registered is another story, but you need the title first.
If the previous owner had a valid title he/she can apply for a replacement title (for a few dollars) in most states.
Don't know about Deleware, but around here you have to take out a title lien for 1.5x the value of the bike and do a bit of paperwork.
I wouldn't pay more than. $200 for a broken CX without a title.
Also factor in: new tires, coolant change, oil change, filter change, brake flush, possible new cables, battery, plus registration/insurance…
Contact your dmv and get all your ducks in a row before throwing money away on unregisterable/stolen junk.
- What if I do not pay back my title loan back on my motorcycle because ir was stolen? I got a title loan in the amount of 400.00 for my 2014 Honda Grom motorcycle. I have made three minimum payments of 125.00 but I still owe around 400.00 because of the high intereat. My motorcycle was stolen from my house, it is time for another payment ans the lender is blowing my phone up. They are threatening repossession but if thats all they can do then i'm not gonna pay it becUse i don't even have it right?
- Motorcycle running lean after removing 25kW restrictor? I recently bought a 2008 Honda Hornet (FI) and it came with 25kW. I removed the restrictor because the bike was really slow but now it's running lean - the acceleration is really sluggish, sometimes it stutters and it turns off most of the times I pull the clutch. Any idea what it might be? The spark plugs were already changed and the air filter is clean, it only started doing this after removing the restrictor.
