About to buy a 1990 Honda Accord (First Car)?
I'm about to buy my first car, a 1990 Honda Accord for a rack, the Car is in good condition i just need to fix the passenger door. But I don't know about maintenance. What are the habitual duties I need to do in order to keep the car s life long and prosperous.
Its 25 years old so don't expect it to be half decent. If it GETS you from point a to b without killing you or making you walk half way, it's a good car.
Oil changes every 6,000 miles/6 months using something decent like Valvoline conventional or Quaker state, good filter like NAPA gold or Bosch.
Drain transmisson fluid and refill(don't bother with flushing). Change the antifreeze. Brake system flush. Power steering flush. Do this when you first get it and don't bother again for atleast 75k miles.
You should be all set besides typical wear items like brakes and tires and light bulbs.
In my experience, there are two things you'll immediately want to know about a new used car, and a few more you've got to just get over with:
1. Does the car have a cam belt? If so, get it changed. If that thing breaks, the whole thing is a pile of rice. AND: How is the radiator? You wouldn't believe how much damage a faulty cooling system can do. Get that looked at, pessimistically. It's worth every penny.
2. Have all the fluids changed. Engine oil, transmission oil, brake fluid, coolant. Get the air con charged. Old cars are full of gunk, unless someone really vigilant has owned them before. It'll cost some money, but you'd be amazed how that translates into years of further use.
- Which car would you buy? (first car)? I'm working and saving up to buy my first car. I'm In the proccess of getting my license and so far i've found a few used cars in my price range! 1) 1999 or 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee 2) 2005 Honda Civic 3) 2003 Vw Jetta i'm not a very tall girl…
- Taking my car into the shop for the first time (my first car and first time at a shop)? Recently acquired a 1999 Honda Accord for $1500 with only 160k. Runs great but my dad checked car and said oil is low and then proceeded to check the rest of the car and said all my fluids need to be replaced. What does that mean and what is the price for fixing this? I want to go to the shop with some sort of understanding of the prices so I know if I'm being ripped off or not.
- How to get top dollar for my 1990 honda accord? Besides craigslist. I want to know of a place in CT that picks up cars and pays cash. I have a 1990 honda accord 4 doors under 200,000 miles. I have the title the body is in excellent condition the front windshield has a small crack the tires are deflated but in good condition. The inside is all in tact the motor is just missing some pieces and won't start but besides that its a pretty good car… Some places have offered me $200 but I know that its worth more… Any suggestions?
- Honda Accord first car good buy? I just bought a 2004 Honda Accord with 200k miles for $1800 is this a good buy? A lot of my friends were saying my car is about to die. Plus it's a 3.0 vtech v6 engine
