Are these signs of a blown head gasket?

I have a salvage title 2002 honda accord with over 252,000 miles on it (bought it just to commute for college ). A couple months ago it was overheating and white smoke was coming out so I had it checked and was told it was a bad radiator, motor mount, had all plugs and wires changed, I believe a gasket and basically a full tune up. The car is old of course and looks like it had been sitting in a salvage junk yard for a while so of course a lot of things needed to be changed. Anyway it was fine until now running hot again immediately when at a sit still before gradually going down while driving and the fans do not turn on unless the air is on. After I turned the car off it started smoking and shot out coolant. What is this? I rather not invest anymore money into a car this old and run down… Thank you.

It can be one of about three things. It all depends on how often/long it was ran hot. If your lucky, just a blown gasket. Then a cracked head(s) and if it is bad, a cracked block. One way to look is at your oil. If it is milky brown, its water mixed in oil. Which means blown gasket or worse.

Shooting coolant out where you can see it usually is not a sign of a blown head gasket. However it could be many other different problems.
It could be a bad water pump which for that year car at autozone is $35. Plus an hour or two to put it on for labor.
It could be just a bad radiator hose which is a good chance. A non formed hose is just a few dollars per foot. More for hoses that are molded to fit the specific vehicle.
I would look where the coolant is coming from. However if the vehicle is low on coolant to begin with, or it has a stuck thermostat, it will cause it to get hot which then builds up pressure and pushes open the radiator cap to release pressure so coolant can spew out of the overflow for the reservoir.

  • Would it be, a bad idea for me to try and fix a blown head gasket? Its for a honda. Stock d16 aftermarket rims and is 1500 with a blown head gasket. My dad is the best honda mechanic in my town. He would be guiding me through it. Also the car had 137k miles and good paint. How much would it be worth if it was fixed?
  • How much is an 89 honda prelude si with blown head gasket worth? I have an 89 honda prelude si with almost 200k miles on it. Interior 10/10 exterior a 6/10. Head gasket is blown but still runs and drives good. All stock. How much is it worth? In boise id by the way
  • How dangerous is a blown head gasket? I have a honda integra 1990 had a recent radiator problem lots of over heating all fixed now. Just discovered recently my head gasket is blown just curious is it worth replacing? What does it exactly do when its blown?
  • Just fixed a blown head gasket? It's a 1998 honda civic ex 1.6L vtec just basically got everything back together. Nervous to start it back up. Basically my question is how can I get the air bubbles out of my radiator if there's any. Just want to make sure the antifreeze is flowing correctly
