Dying speedometer on a 1991 honda accord ex?
For about a year now I've occasionally witnessed my speedometer die. Usually for a few seconds though sometimes for a few hours or days. Never was much of an issue until I moved. Recently the speedometer will work for about the first 7/10ths of a mile or more and then die, daily. I'm assuming the instrument cluster is going out yet not quite sure if this is the main cause. Any other ideas?
Added (1). Oops forgot the mention a few things,
M/T (if A/T I'd be unable to drive period with the lack of being able to shift gears)
Dash works perfectly light wise
Any light lit up on the dash? Cel? Any code? You've not mentioned the car has A/T or M/T cause the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) is different to replace (Common cause). It could be the cluster also. See this video:
Video helps a good bit, his is A/T though. I wish I mentioned that earlier. If the information I updated is enough, more tips would be appreciated. Also I don't have a code reader at the moment.
That's pretty typical for bad solder connections on the speedometer cluster pc board. See the source for more.
- How to fix a 1991 Honda civic DX hatchback not running found a lose speedometer cable? My only car, a 1991 Honda civic DX hatchback stopped getting gears. It turns on perfectly, oil is perfect no specs, I found a lose cord, a speedometer cable. Is this why it doesn't get any gears? There's a pin to attach it back in but it blows off when I start it. What can I do? I really don't want to junk it.
- I have a 1991 Honda accord that died when I was driving any idea of what could be wrong? I was driving in 3rd gear at 2500 rpms. My car just died, and at first didn't think much of it. But later today it started doing it allot more. I can't drive more then a 100ft with out it dying. I thought it was the alternater?
- How to tighten the interior rear view mirror on my 1991 Honda Accord - it's extremely loose? Something, perhaps hitting a hidden pothole caused the interior rear view mirror of my 1991 Honda Accord to loosen considerably. As a matter of fact it won't stay stationary at all. I've tried to figure out how to tighten it but to no avail? Could someone please help me with this issue?
- 97 honda accord sputtering and dying? I have a 97 honda accord 4 cylinder. Recently it was getting hot and the mechanic fixed it by putting in a new radiator. About 3 days later it started sputtering like it was out of gas but it isn't and then it would die. The rpm will fluncuate. I'm getting a code for oxygen sensor but thats always been and then a code for egr valve. I changed the egr valve, and spark plugs. I found a coolant leak but i don't know if that would cause the car to sputter and die?
