How long can I drive my car with my spare tire?

I've been driving my car with my spare tire for over a month now. Old Honda Accord.

If it's a full-size spare then you can drive it for as long as it is roadworthy - potentially years. If it's a space-saver tyre (sometimes called a "donut") then you should read the speed and distance limits written on the tyre. A general rule of thumb is 80/80 - ie. No faster than 80kph and no further than 80km.

You can drive it until it blows out, you get in an accident, and die. Basically, it's time to buy a used tire.

Along with chris's knowledgeable answer. Make sure the tire has sufficient air-pressure. And be gentle with it. And stop dbl-posting.

Apparently for a month. Not a bright idea

Most idiots find out when the tire blows out and they hit another car.

If it is old enough it is a full size spare, but I bet the tire is too old to be roadworthy in that case. Look at the tire date code (see the source). If the last two digits - the year - is below 11 you shouldn't go too long; if it is below 07 you shouldn't be driving on it at all.

Chris is absolutely correct. Best answer for him.

50 miles if its one of those donut spare tires. Usually tells you that on the side of the tire

Old does not say "how old". Somewhere they changed to a spacesaver tire which is much smaller and good for 50MPH and 50 miles. Otherwise it will be a full sized tire and you can go all summer if you wish. I would be looking for other tires. I know for sure it started in 07.

The question is, why push it. Patches are cheap, used tires are cheap.
