How much do cars cost at the auctions?
I'm 19 trying to buy a honda 2007 or newer but i want to know how much i should take with me, Honda accord ex-l would be nice as a starter car.
Most car auctions require you to be a licensed used car dealer.
You go with a mechanic and have it inspected before you buy one.
low price does not mean good car.
I have bought 2 dozen or more personal cars from public car auctions. You are going to face two factual problems if you never bought a car at the auction before.
1. The chances of finding a specific car brand and model is going to take some time. Most public car auctions are weekly and run 50-150 cars through each sale. 99% of them will NOT be what you are looking for if you are trying to be specific.
2. The chances of you understanding what you are buying and how much you are bidding is going to be problematic.
I went to car auctions with my dad for several years before I was old enough to drive. My 3rd car was bought at the auction. I was 17. By that time my dad showed me the tricks of the trade. Some can be explained, others you need to be shown in person.
I have watched people at the auctions pop open the hood to look at the engine and they would never check the exhaust. BIG MISTAKE! Always check the exhaust pipe first. If the car has been driven there and there's water or oil on the exhaust, or if the exhaust smells like raw gasoline stay clear of it. You don't want anything to do with that car. It has engine problems.
If you are looking at an automatic pull out the transmission dipstick and smell the fluid. If it smells burnt, walk away from it.
If the car was hauled in by truck, still check the exhaust, but some condensation can accumulate if the sale is at night time or early morning. If it runs for a few minutes and the water dries up though, it is worth a deeper look. If it is still wet, the head or head gaskets are blown.
You asked a question about price, but you did not put where you are. If you are in the South, plan on spending $3,000 - $5,000. If you are in the Northeast, add $1,000. If you are in the plain states look at about the same as the Northeast. If you are in the Rockies, good luck finding a public auction. If you are on the west cost, add another $1,500 - $3,000 depending on how nice the auction house. The nicer the auction house the higher the bidding.
Approximately wholesale.
But, public auctions are often full of junk or overpriced cars from dealers trying to retail their nice cars to people who mistakenly think they can get a great deal at an auction.
Getting in isn't a huge deal. Who is going to buy the car for you and how much will they charge you?
I used to charge $200 about 20 years ago. I knew other that charged $500 or 10% whichever was more.
Auctions are not really good for inexperienced buyers. Auctioneers often fabricated bidders.
- Subaru cars have the best cost benefit, is this proven? Subaru cars are superior to cars: Ford, Chevrolet, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Volkswagen and Jeep. The excellent cost benefit offered by Subaru, makes this company the best for the American middle class.
- Why is it that some husbands let their wives drive luxury cars while they drive ordinary cars? I've been observing some of my neighbors (one of them is a stay at home mom) and the husbands drive ordinary cars like Honda Accord or Honda Pilot. But the wives tend to drive luxury cars like Acura TSX or Acura RDX (some form of luxury car). What is the reason for this? Why do wives get to drive luxury cars while the husband drives ordinary car? I should say some of them. Its not a problem though but was only curious. The neighbors are Asians actually.
- Is it better to sell Cheap cars or Expensive cars? As a car salesman? Some people would think cheap cars but people with bad credit get declined often. I know this because my credit sucks and i'm almost always declined for cars. I'm sure this makes it tougher to get a sale right? This has me thinking, i want to sell cars. Should selling luxury cars like mercedes and bmw be better than selling hondas and toyotas?
- How much should it cost to clean a carburetor on a honda cb 360? I'm looking at a 76 cb360 and I found a Mmi mechanic that does work on the side. He said it would cost $150 to go through and clean the whole thing. Does that sound right? Or is that high for a backyard mechanic? Don't tell me to do it myself. I'm not mechanically inclined and don't want to deal with it.
