How to remove the steering wheel to get to the clock spring on my 1993 Honda Accord SE?
It seems I damaged my clock spring and need to replace it. I no longer have any cruise control, my horn doesn't work, and my SRS light is on, although the SRS does seem to go off temporarily if I turn my steering wheel all the way to the right, but then I can hear something being stretched if I do (obviously the clock spring). How do I get into the steering wheel so I can replace it?
Unplug the battery for a minimum of 10 mins. There should be a cover if not 2 holes on the back of the steering wheel. Pull those out, and CAREFULLY pull out and unplug the cover/ airbag. Clock spring should be right there. Before you unscrew it, rotate the wheel till stop and count how many times it rotates in eachc direction to properly align the new clockspring so it won't stretch or break. Usually you'll need to pull the steering wheel off but i'm not 100% sure.
- Will a steering wheel off of a Honda Odyssey fit my Honda Civic? I have a 2002 Honda Civic and need to change the steering wheel to another stock one because the brackets in mine are destroyed, I can't find one in my area and was wondering if a odyssey steering wheel from the same year would fit, and if the airbag from my Civic will line up with an odyssey wheel, so that i don't need to go buy an airbag
- Does power steering fluid get hot if the car is just running and the steering isn't being used? If the pump is just spinning, recirculating fluid and nothing else… Would it still get hot? I had to bypass the pump from the rack and have the fluid recirculate. Would the pump get hot from just spinning? I know 8th gen Honda's don't have a cooler for the power steering anyways.
