I have a 1994 Honda Accord it is overheating but has no thermostat?
It does have a thermostat. At 20 years of age, a new radiator is not out of the question.
Your right it doesn't, new fan?
Probably doesn't have a working fan either.
The purpose of the thermostat is to slow down the coolant circulation for the heater inside the car. The car will run quite well without it.
@Rick29148: I'v though your knowledge about cooling system or a combustion engine operation is better than the purpose of an engine thermostat:
"Any liquid-cooled car engine has a small device called the thermostat that sits between the engine and the radiator. The thermostat in most cars is about 2 inches (5 cm) in diameter. Its job is to block the flow of coolant to the radiator until the engine has warmed up. When the engine is cold, no coolant flows through the engine. Once the engine reaches its operating temperature (generally about 200 degrees F, 95 degrees C), the thermostat opens. By letting the engine warm up as quickly as possible, the thermostat reduces engine wear, deposits and emissions."
- I have a 1994 honda prelude si. It has bent valves i don't know how many due to timing belt breaking? I need step by step instructions on how to get to valves and to know if they are bent or not and how to replace them. Anyone help me with the step by step instructions. Please
- I have a 1997 Honda CRV. I just replaced the thermostat like 5 days ago. Radiators been flushed as well? All the fluids are fresh and at the proper levels. There are no visible leaks of any kind of fluids but the car still overheats usually once its been driven for about 15-20 minutes. I take the radiator cap off and the coolant is not moving through the radiator. Would this be a water pump failure or could it be something else?
- Honda civic thermostat overheating? Honda civic sport 1,6 2005 Recently my dial starting going over 3/4 and I had it checked at a garage and he said everything was fine and couldn't find a problem. That was probably a year ago. Today it done it again for the first time. I'm not 100% sure were to put more water and engine coolant in. Can someone help me out?
- Car overheating but it has coolant I have a 2004 Honda Civic Lx 1.7L and I lost my collar resovoir cap, would that cause a problem in my car overheating, I've made sure it has coolant and it's the right kind but it still overheats and I'm not sure if the cap is there to keep pressure or just to keep debris out.
