Oil light in Honda Accord flashing?

The oil light in my 2000 Honda Accord started flashing on my way home tonight. Good thing I was about half a mile away from my house. I know it's not good to be driving like that. My car is long overdue for a service/oil change. If I got that done would that fix the problem? I don't know if this matters but there's a little over 278,000 miles on it.

Such good cars Honda accords I have one myself with 178000 on the clock and still going strong. Just check the oil using your (dip stick) which is located to the left hand side of the engine near the front of the engine (under the bonnet) if the the oil is low on the stick or not even showing DON'T move the car go and get some oil and put it in the engine until it registers on the dip stick don't forget to wipe the dip stick each time you put it in and the check it it when you withdraw the stick when you have done this then and only then start up the engine and check to see if the light has been extinguished sometimes the engine will turn on the engine management light when the oil gets very low and the car will go onto what's called (limp home mode) and when this happens you will not be able to rev the engine above 2000 rpm this is a safety faction built into the system. Once you have done all this go and get a oil and filter cahnge and look after the old beast and it will look after you forever. As mine has.

First thing, is there oil on the dipstick?

If there isn't add more BEFORE driving it anywhere.

Once you get the oil level into the normal, it will be safe to drive the car to the workshop and get the servive done.

An older vehicle like that may burn some oil between oil changes, and run low. This is not a big problem as long as you check it regularly and top up as needed.

I if your car is burning oil like that it is near to the end of it's life anyway.

Why do I get the impression you have no clue as to the meaning of this "oil light" you mention? The fact you mention as to the "long overdue" oil change is one data point. The almost 300,000 miles on the car is another data point. What is missing is the human factor. Vivid scenario as to you not having too much money, not even for an oil change. So, now, the consequence has arrived. Why did you prefer to grab for the smartphone to text versus reading the car manual as to what is the significance of the warning light? What does it mean? Without that basic of information, then, what are we to do? No one at home to help you?

  • Flashing check engine light on 02 Honda Oddyssey after Valvoline oil change? Got an oil change at Valvoline, and next day check engine light began flashing. Car was running flawlessly before oil change. They suggested a new fuel filter, as mine was pretty rough. I declined. Got error codes of random misfire, as well as cylinder 1,2,4,6 misfire. Scanner at auto zone listed EGR valve as suggested part. Could this possibly be that the fuel filter is bad or was put back on incorrectly?
  • Oil Change: Honda Motor Oil Vs Generic oil, does it make a difference? I have been getting oil changes with Honda motor oil for 15 years on my 2002 civic that now has 132K miles. If I switch to a generic $10 oil change garage shop will it still be ok? I know the Honda filters are better then the cheapest generic ones but how about the actual motor oil?
  • Honda Civic 2004 LX flashing engine light after thermostat change? I have a Civic that was overheating and I got the engine light checked out and was told to change my thermostat. I changed my thermostat and I refilled it with coolant and for some reason the engine light started blinking and it never went off?
  • 98 Honda Civic Stopped in the road with flashing engine light and had to tow it home? My Civic stopped (169k miles) while driving and now won't start. When checking codes by OBD II scanner, it shows P303, P304, P300 and P1399 which is misfire. Any ideas, how should I go about diagnostics. As car is pretty old, not worth of taking to mechanic Thanks in advance. It was bad battery and bad wireset combination. Replaced both, car started as before.
