Should I buy a 2001 Honda Accord?
I know its an old car, but I just need transportation. Would it be a good car?
It used to be a great car, maybe still is. Mileage and condition are the biggest variables. Look at a carfax and get a mechanic to inspect it.
If it has an automatic transmission, and especially if it has a 6 cylinder engine with an automatic transmission, stay far away. 2001 was deep in the heart of the Great Honda Automatic Transmission Debacle, in which transmissions would fail every few years. I was active in a Honda forum at the time and people were complaining of the transmission being replaced twice under warranty and a third time out of warranty. An oil jet kit was eventually added to the transmissions when they were rebuilt and that helped significantly, but the carcomplaint.com rating (see the source) of Avoid Like The Plague still applies.
No, that is among the years of the worst automatic transmission for Honda. Those always failed at about 30,000 miles. There was a recall, but you're too late now.
We can't tell you. Any vehicle that old requires a thorough inspection and test drive by someone who knows what they're doing and what to look for. If you have to, pay an independent Honda mechanic to do it for you. It's worth the money.
Honda's are good cars, but it depends if the one you've found is in good condition.
Get it checked out by a mechanic and then you'll know.
Sure.
Buy TWO!
- Which music player device should I buy for my Honda Accord 2001? My Honda Acc 2001 does not have usb port, and unfortunately CD player was broken too. I'm thinking about getting any type of music player. I already have an old Galaxy S2 that I don't use any more, maybe I will put it in my car. Any recommendation?
- What size rims(deep dish) rims do i need to buy for my 2001 Honda Accord EX Sedan? I've read the book and looked all over the internet i've found the sizes of my wheels but what if i'm trying to buy some deep dish rims? Would i need to raise my car or what do i have to do?
- Should I get a transmission flush on my 2001 Honda Accord DX with 165,000 miles on it? Well it's more like should I buy my friend's 2001 Honda Accord DX with 165,000 miles on it? He told me that there's nothing wrong with the transmission, but since the car is old that I might need to flush out the transmission.
- Should i buy an oem honda part or is it worth the risk to buy aftermarket? I need a vehicle speed sensor for my 94 accord and i noticed aftermarket prices for this part are much cheaper but is it worth the risk or should I buy the "dorman" part?
