What's the cheapest and most affective way to boost the power of a 1998 honda accord?
Looking to get a little more power out of my 98 honda accord. By no means am I trying to make it a rice-rocket or any sort of streetracer, everything else is stock and will stay that way.
Its just the passing power is so bad! Getting on the freeway takes almost all its got.
I would really just like to get a little more out of it as cheap as possible and without doing any sort of extreme mods on it. I was thinking maybe a turbo?
Any input is appreciated!
Premium fuel will give a very slight increase of performance. A little nitrobenzine in the gas will give a nice power boost… Until the pistons melt.
Have a compression check done, that old of car may need a clyinder hone/bore and new piston rings, possibly new pistons also.
For about $30 at Harbor Freight you can get a decent compression meter to know about where things are going
Replace the plugs. Replace the wires. Replace the cap and rotor. Replace the air filter. Replace the fuel filter. Get the valves adjusted. Check timing. In short, get a "tune up".
The cheapest 'power booster' is a NOx system, but still would be 600 ~ 800 bucks. Get a tune-up & see if that helps.
Floor the accelerator
Hi so a 20 years old car which has lived 3 lifetimes is never going to last long if a turbo or supercharger is added. Up the street and a loud bang will bring it to a standstill.
Have the transmission checked for slippage.
Yikes get a new one
Any of the simple mods won't increase power significantly. To really get more power out of them is to maybe swap to a more powerful motor, or forced induction. Those options are clearly what you are avoiding based on your post.
- Prius: Can someone explain the power usage meter & specific difference between power mode and Eco mode? My brother just got me a Prius to replace my old beater Honda and I'm having difficulty understanding the power usage meter (meter on dash with "Charge-Eco-Power") and the difference in the Eco & Power modes. I do understand the charge bit on the meter.
- I put 87 octane gas in my bike, can I use octane boost to correct the problems it's causing my bike? Last night I put 87 octane in my 2008 Honda Shadow 750. It started sputtering and stalled out on me twice last night. Can I use octane boost to make it run cleaner and better. Will that help fix the stalling problem as I have always run 93 octane and never had any problems?
- How do I know what kind of tires to get? The cheapest way? I have a Honda with185,000 miles on it. It needs new tores soon but i'm not sure which tires to buy. There are tires rated for 100k miles and some rated for less like 40 or 60k miles. Is it best to pay a little more for longer tread life or is it cheaper to go with cheaper tires initially but they have avshorter tread life. I plan to keep the car for a long time. But not sure how to make the decision on which is cheaper in the long run. Anybody got suggestions?
