Why is my car insurance still so high? (DUI 5 years ago)?
I'd like to insure a 2011 Corolla with full coverage. Background below.
I received a DUI 5 years ago in CA at the age of 19. Since then I've never had a ticket or at-fault accident. I was hit by another vehicle in 2012 and this was written off as not at fault by my previous insurance company.
Currently I have GEICO. Starting in late 2012 I insured a 1990 honda accord for $68/mo with GEICO. Since then it's down to $42 a month. According to my policy number I'm rated as a driver with no surcharges and I'm in GEICO's safe driver discount since I've had no at faults or tickets for 5 years.
I'm looking to purchase a newer car (2011 corolla) and the quote I got was $228 a month. Other major insurers were much more expensive. I was quoted $388 by one major insurer. I've talked to many of my friends who pay about $120 a month for cars that would be higher risk (G37, Camarro, etc). My credit score is considered excellent and I live in a low crime neighborhood and I turned 25 two months ago. I'm not sure what would influence my rate to still be so high after 5 years since the DUI has passed. I'd also only like to stick with major companies. I've been down the road with small cheap insurance carriers and you get what you pay for.
Any advice?
In the UK DUI history last for at least 10 years for insurance purposes, I'm guessing it's similar over your side of the pond.
Insurance companies do not like drunk drivers plain and simple. The fact that you are clean for 5 years is to your credit and hopefully you've learnt your lesson but again insurance companies do not rely on hope.
- Motorbike insurance at £2000 - too high? I just bought a Honda CG 2002 124cc bike. I have a CBT. I have no NCB and have not driven a car or bike before (but have had a provisional license for 5 years). I live in London. The bike will be kept in a driveway and used for commuting to work. Given all of this, the lowest insurance quote I'm getting is £1780 p/a on any of the major comparison websites. This seems very high or is it about right?
- I have a 2014 Honda. I bought the battery 2 years ago from the dealer? Last night I went to start it and it made the machine gun sound, got a neighbor to jump me and it worked fine. This morning it also started first try, So, WHat happened last night and will it happen again? Do I need to take action so I won't get stranded?
- I bought a car from honda about month ago? I took it home with these white stains on the door upholstery. I'd clean it myself, but i don't want to mess up the interior. Do you think honda will clean it for free? Or will there be a service charge?
- Car insurance compared to small truck insurance? I have a Honda Fit right now, but am interested in buying a new small four-wheel drive truck. How do insurance rates generally compare (in Ontario) between a subcompact car and a small truck?
