Mirage sounds better. I'd hate to think about a perfectly good motorcycle going into an abyss. Makes me feel a bit nauseous.

Both of those names refer to areas which are hard to define.
A mirage is seen in a very hot place such as a desert, it is of something such as a pool of water which does not exist.
An abyss is deep hole of nothingness into which you consign ("throw") any sort of junk which you no longer want to think about.
