Cheapest way to fix rusted quarter panels?

What are the cheapest, but still look good "do it yourself", ways to fix a hole and rust on a qrt panel on a 1989 honda crx. The one hole on the passenger side is the size of a softball and the other is maybe the size of 2 quarters. Any ideas? The color is red and everywhere is seems to be pretty solid.

It isn't pretty solid if it has a hole the size of a softball. Your best bet it's buy prefabricated quater panels, cut out the old and weld in the new. If well-sealed in the back this will hold up. Cheapest way is to cut out the rust back to completely rust-free metal (if any) then pop-rivet galvanized sheet metal to the back. (You can also get counter-sunk pop rivets.) Then bondo and paint it. Any bondo schemes which are not backed by metal will fall out in months.

The cheapest route would be bondo. They sell it at Walmart. You can either use mesh then bondo, or fill the hole with expanding foam the sand it till its flush and bondo over it. Or you can use fiberglass which they also sell at Walmart. If you want something to last use patch panels. I would not recommend bondo mainly do to when moisture gets in it, over time it will crack. But as far as cheap goes, bondo is your best and easiest route.

Hi so here in the united kingdom we now have issues with using glass fibre of structural panels. So it is not acceptable to be used and the car will fail an ~MOT when it has one. Yes it is noticeable with a magnet. So time to get new panels welded in as they should be.

  • How do I know what kind of tires to get? The cheapest way? I have a Honda with185,000 miles on it. It needs new tores soon but i'm not sure which tires to buy. There are tires rated for 100k miles and some rated for less like 40 or 60k miles. Is it best to pay a little more for longer tread life or is it cheaper to go with cheaper tires initially but they have avshorter tread life. I plan to keep the car for a long time. But not sure how to make the decision on which is cheaper in the long run. Anybody got suggestions?
  • How to unstick rusted screw and washer? I have a 2006 honda crv. I'm in the process of removing the air filter housing and i realize that one screw and washer are rusted together, not even budging. Because of this, i have in turn tried everything to get it out and it is stripped. Why honda put screws in a housing is beyond me. All of them are rusted. This one is just horrible. Tips? I do not want to drill it because i do not want to damage my housing.
  • What can be the best way to fix CEL? I have a honda civic 2005 automatic. I'm trying to fix it to pass the smog test but the CEL comes on. I took it to Autozone to see what code it is. It turned out to be P0741. I looked it up and it has to do with torque converter. Now, a friend offered to take my car to his mechanic and the guy said it has to replace 3 sensors. I don't know what to believe. The car works perfectly fine.
