Check engine light flashing what does it mean?

Can I drive it. A little bit what does it mean? Can't see someone until tomorrow morning. 2001 Honda passport

If it is flashing, there's a fault that will cause poor running and it could and eventually lead to worse problems. You can drive it till the next day to get it looked at, yes.

We can't tell you what it means, but instead of panicking and asking a question we can't answer, at least check your oil level, your coolant level, the condition and operation of the accessory belts and the other warning lights. If they all are ok, then it's probably safe enough to drive until you can get someone to troubleshoot it.

A flashing check engine light means something serious. I do not recommend driving until it is checked out.

It can mean simply your oil cap is loose to a major problom

A flashing Check Engine light usually comes from something serious; an engine misfire, or something like a major overtemperature somewhere.

Maybe you can drive a short distance to your mechanic. Don't undertake a longer trip until you know what's going on.

You start with replacing the spark plugs with either NGK or DENSO iridium spark plugs

Flashing means the catalyst is in immediate danger. Most common to flash in misfire conditions. When cat converters were just $100 I'd just drive it. $3,300 parts is the worst price I ever saw for cats. I think $800 is the average today. A tow is cheaper.

Go to an Auto Zone and they will check it for you for free. It could be a dirty sensor, loose wire, gas cap going bad.

It means to look under the hood where the engine is. Shut engine off first. Now open and look. Usually check your fluid levels. OIL is #1 pulling the dipstick and wipe it off of all oil and stick it back in the dipstick hole that aims to the bottom of the motor. So usually the dipstick nearest to the the rad. (I got to guess as you have a mystery make of vehicle) Put it all the way in and count 3 seconds and pull up and see where the wetness is on the dipstick. There are lines or notches. The highest line is the line closest to the pulling finger. Oil should not be higher than that. Nor should it be below the bottom line. Showing you are low on oil. BLINKING light is telling you you are low on lubrication. Add some. Walk to the service station and buy a quart. It never rots. Will have a screw on lid. So you can use some of it and save the rest in case it gets low again. I find a cubby corner in the engine compartment where the bottle can just sit without falling over. Some people toss it in their trunk with the spare tire… Or put in a 8x8 cardboard box and put that in the trunk with their other tools for the car. Keep it with the car.
Coolant level is an easy eyeball check. You can see if the tanks are full to the level they should be at.

Not much else to check.

Scanner at auto zone listed EGR valve as suggested part. Could this possibly be that the fuel filter is bad or was put back on incorrectly?

I leave it running for a couple minutes but get this the check engine light turns off for some time then after driving it for awhile it starts to shake and gives a sound that it wants to turn off as that's happening the Check engine light is flashing and the exhaust starts to steam or smoke.I've replaced the spark plugs and also the up stream and down stream sensors.
