2002 Chevy cavalier or 1991 Honda Civic Hatchback?

Currently i have a 2002 Chevy cavalier. It has 113,000 miles on it and i have put at least 30,000 of them on there myself. I live 8 hours away from my college so i drive distance a lot. I'm looking at getting the Honda civic because it is a manual and the hatchback would give me more space for taking my stuff to college since my parents won't be taking me. The only problem is the Civic is not running because the owner said it needs a fuel pump, so it has been sitting for a year. I can sell my car and get $3,000 for it and the civic will only cost me $500-$700. The civic has 180,000 miles on it. I'm not to sure if i should go for it or not. -Thanks

Ian is 100% right, a friend of mine bought a truck for $800 with only an ac problem and needed new tires and he is constantly finding a new problem with the truck every week. He's had the truck for 6 weeks and can't afford to fix it.

So, a non-running Civic that the owner is too lazy to do a simple repair on?

If he/she was too lazy to replace a fuel pump, what else was neglected? What has rotted in storage?

Without being able to test drive it/hear it run, I would offer scrap value $150-200 tops.

How are the tires? When was the timing belt replaced? Is there a service history?

Yes certainly more then fuel pump

It might need far more than a fuel pump.
