2011 Honda civic 1.8 dx model has ac problems at idle?

When driving at higher speeds the ac works fine. When you get to traffic (congestion) the ac stops working. Took it to a BIG SHOP everything is fine with the system. They said take it to Honda. What can be wrong with this ac system?

Condenser fan should be running at idle. Check the big fan by the radiator on the passenger side when the problem occurs, if not running that's your issue. Check fuse, try running 12V to the fan to see if it even works, etc. Don't operate A/C in heavy traffic or waiting at red lights, or you'll kill the compressor with high side overpressure.

How many miles for the car? Was it still under factory warranty? If not then there's no recall nor TSB about the AC system defect at idle. Air flow problem is what I have in mind if the car has no overheating problem.

If the repair shop has checked it out and said everything is fine. I have to go with their words and the diagnosing.

If I was the one who check the system out warranty or not: I'll go with the basic first: Are the cooling fans working as it should be? Is there any air flow restriction between the AC condenser and the radiator? Thing like plastic air bags, newspaper etc.

Is the system full of freon? What are the pressures under the performance tests? Any code(s) in the AC system? Any modification to the car? You'll not believe the problems end up in our shop door that even the dealer or other shops have overlooked.

Everyday I came home with peace in my mind after the two shops were close. Sometimes staying up due to the problems that I'll have to deal with in the next morning. It's not fun but a non stop learning experiences.

Dealers or repair shops, we're talking to each other when problem or conflict arose, OEM warranty is easy, extending warranty is another matter has to dealt with etc. It's a daily routine.

Wishing if you can provide more information, the car has a problem with the AC system running at idle: To me, it's an easy to diagnose and fix.

Give me as much as information about the problem as well as what the "Big shop" diagnosing of the problem and I'll chime in. HTH
