2011 Scion tC vs 2009 Honda Civic Si vs 2011 Mazda 3 Touring vs 2006 Lexus Is250?

My kid has a Scion xB. They are really safe, but sort of tinny. The tC commits the cardinal sin (IMHO) of looking fast but not being fast.
The Civic takes high test, and they are often driven hard. It's difficult to tell what you are getting.
The Lexus is nice, and it's a Lexus. Does it take high test?
I got my other kid a 2010 Mazda 3 touring about 2 months ago. I cross shopped a 2011 Civic. The Mazda ate the Civic's lunch. More stable, quicker, and just a better driving car in every way. The only advantage the Civic had was mileage. Anyway, it has a fantastic stereo, he's getting about 32 MPG all the time (manual trans), it's nice looking, and probably a much nicer car than an 18 year old should be driving. I'm seriously considering getting a 2014 for myself.
Mileage is boss in a car. Go with the scion or mazda. Both great cars…
- Mazda reliability? Particularly 2013 mazda 3? I'm in the market for a new car and I was looking between 2013 Toyota corolla which is just boring and doesn't have as much features compared to Honda, or mazda. The Mazda 3 is at a good price 1000 dollars cheaper then the Toyota. So my question is, is Mazda reliable for that generation, or should I stick with a very well known reliable car maker?
