5th gear pops out in my manual car?
I was driving today and 5th gear just popped out? 2002 Honda Civic si
I had a Toyota truck that did this. You can try changing the tranny oil to synthetic, it helped mine. Or, a bungee cord to hold it into 5th.
Worn shift forks or syncro. Try replacing the tranny oil. No joy, time for a new tranny.
If it keeps doing it then you need a rebuilt transmission.
There's a bushing at the bottom of the shifter under the car that is the pivot point to the long rod going to the tranny. They seize up and can cause the problem you're having. Take the bolt out and clean and lube the bushing or replace it. You may also have a bad motor or transmission mount that allows the power train to move too much which adds to the problem.
- My 1999 manual honda prelude does not shift into 5th gear or reverse smoothly? My gears are smooth from 1-4 but then takes a lot of effort to go to 5th or reverse. Also when you get out of 5th or reverse it doesn't go straight into neutral like a normal manual car. They still work but it is very annoying that i have to push it into the gears and pull them out. What could the issue be? Transmission? Shift box? I plan on changing to a short throw shifter in the future.
- 5th & 6th gear issues, motorcycle? I have a 1984 Honda Magna 750. I noticed a month or two ago that 6th gear wasn't engaging. Then this weekend I noticed that 5th seemed to not be fully engaging. Wondering if anyone has an idea of what is wrong. Or can point me in the right direction.
- Is the 1985 Honda CR 500 water pump gear shaft compatible with the 86-2001 Honda CR 500 water pump gear shaft? I have a 1985 CR 500 and the water pump gear shaft broke. It has been discontinued from Honda, and no one else has it. It is a metal gear. The one's for the 1986-2001 CR 500 are plastic. If I have to use plastic, I will. However, I prefer not to. If anyone knows where I can get the OEM 1985 Honda CR 500 gear shaft, I would forever be grateful.
- Why is my 2006 honda civic manual transmission going into gear revving up high and moving forward slowly? I'm not sure if my parking brake is stuck or not. It moves in reverse just fine. When i put it into first gear its moving forward very slowly even when i push the gas down all the way.
