97 Honda Civic distributor
I need help with an issue I'm having, I've watched YouTube videos and also have read my manual and all I'm is confused. I'm trying to take off my distrubtor because I want to have my cylinder head machined, but I have a couple of questions that hopefully you can help answer, does piston 1 need to be on TDC? If i do put it on TDC and get the head machined and when I install it will it work like before? Is they're only one way to put the distributor? What happens if I put it in wrong? Are there markings I can go by? Can someone please help me, no stupid answers either.
See if this help:
You have about 4 options. 1. Take the cap off and make a mark on the grill support, fender liner, valve cover, or firewall where the rotor is pointing. 2. Turn the crankshaft until the crank it TDC and the rotor is point to plug wire 1. 3. Turn the crankshaft to TDC and remember that the rotor is pointing 180 degrees from plug wire 1. 4. Pull the distributor. When you put it back together, put your thumb over the spark plug hole for cyl 1. Keep turning the crankshaft until you feel compression in cyl 1. Keep turning the crank to TDC. Install the distributor so that the rotor is pointing at plug wire 1.
Turn your shop manual to the page(s) regarding the distributor. Follow the instructions.
Then follow the procedure for head removal.
Or wing it off of random advise off the internet.
Remember to un bolt the head in right sequence/increments as well as reinstall according to the exact manual procedure in regards to torque and pattern.
Or just wing it.

- Could it be my distributor? 1989 Honda Integra? So I went to start my car and it wouldn't start, it sounded like it wanted to but wasn't getting spark. After checking the spark plugs and leads I narrowed it down to the distributor as the points look really worn down. Could this be what's causing my car to not start? The engines all factory b16a
- What's the best Distributor cap and rotor for a 1997 Honda Civic EX? I have to do a tune-up pretty soon for my Honda. I was recommended NGK spark plugs and wires but not the cap and rotor. I'm sure the OEM is ideal but if there's a company that makes caps and rotors much more efficient than OEM then I want to get those to go along with the NGKs. So my question is that is there a company that specializes in Caps and Rotors like NGK is with spark plugs and wires?
