Bypassing an AC compressor on a 2003 honda civic ex?
I have a 2003 honda civic ex and i'm trying to bypass the ac compressor and just have the alternator and crank connected with a belt. Does anyone have an idea on what size belt i need?
Might not work. On many cars, messing with the belt routing will cause slippage & belt failure. If the compressor is fried but the clutch still spins, just unplug the clutch.
The AC compressor can only make noise either at the clutch bearing or internally. If it's about to fall apart internally, all you have to do is disconnect the electrical plug for the clutch or remove the fuse or the clutch relay. That's the relay in the under hood fuse/relay box with the Snow flake imprinted on the top.
You can buy a 2001-2002 Civic DX stock (No AC) Alternator belt and I believe will solve the belt problem as the 2001 Civic DX stock came with no AC from factory (AC was an option)
If the clutch pulley bearing, it an easy job and the bearing is cheap. Why not replacing it? If you choose not to replace then you'll have to find a belt to fit and drive the alternator. So find a small rope and fit around the crank pulley and to the alternator, cut to fit and the auto part store can find you a belt that fit, if the advice I've given doesn't work (Buying an alternator belt for a stock Civic DX with no AC) It'll work because I've bypassed for many Civic 2001-2004
So clutch pulley bearing: Need new shorter belt or replace the bearing. Compressor internal noise: Remove the fuse or disconnect the clutch connector.
Clutch pulley bearing failure will make noise all of the time. Compressor internal noise only make noise when the clutch engaging.
- How much should I pay to replace the AC compressor on a 2010 Honda Odyssey? The air conditioning on my wife's minivan recently went out. I had her take it to a mechanic expecting a refill situations costing less than $100. When they got back to us they said the clutch would not engage on the AC and it required replacement costing over 1100 dollars. I've seen the part online for $250 to 450. How much is reasonable to pay for this repair? Would I be better off buying the part online and having someone else install it? I'm told the job is about 3 hours.
