Can a normal honda civic 1996 car go offroad without 4x4?

Lets say if I wanted to go to a rocky road would I be able to without 4wheel drive?

The ground clearance of a 1996 Civic is a bit less than six inches. Any road you would consider rocky will do grievous damage, partly because the stated ground clearance is when driving level. Coming down from a rock can reduce the clearance by a couple inches. I drive a 4X4 as a major part of my job (60 miles of off-road last week) and have had to use a jack to get my truck, with 18 inch wheels, off rocks. Good thing it has skid plates!

Question is a little vague. There are different levels of off road.
Off road can simply mean off the pavement, the side of the road where the paving (asphalt, concrete) ends can be considered off road.

But since you mention 4X4 off road. Then it is obvious. Civics are not 4X4, normal civics don't have off-road tires, they don't have the ride height to clear obstacles, their engines are not design for torque.

Civics can be modified though for rally. That is another type of off-road.

Not much the biggest factor here is the ground clearance.

On a scale of 1-10 describe "rocky" - anything above a 2 is a no.

I guess so, you can drive it off road until it gets stuck or breaks. Honda Civics suspensions are not strong enough to endure off road use.

If rocky means gravel then it's perfectly okay. Otherwise, not a good idea
