Current car 1.1L, next car 2.0L? Too big of a jump?

I've had my Hyundai Getz now (first car) for around and year and will soon be moving onto a new car.

My heart is currently set on a Honda Civic Tyre R (2006 and before, the older shape).

Would going from a 1.1L engine to a 2L engine be too big of a jump?

As in, would it be too powerful for me as I'm only 20?

My parents seem to think so but really I reckon they're just saying that!

Thanks.

P.S. I don't want any responses about the cost, just to do with being able to handle the car.

A 2.0 liter engine is still quite meek in the grand scheme of things. Sure, it will be peppier than the 1.1L but not hugely.

I really don't think it's anything to worry about, when I was 16, my first vehicle had 6.4L V8. A 2.0L isn't anything to be concerned over.

A car will only go as fast as you make it go, take it easy till you are comfortable with it.

No it won't be a problem since you have control of the power output with your right foot. Even 500 bhp cars can be driven gently around town.

2.0L should be extremely easy to handle. I learned in a 5.6L and my first car was 3.5L, besides Hondas have barely any torque, so torque steer shouldnt be a problem and its FWD so handling should be relatively easy aswell

Get an insurance quote on the 2.0l Civic Type R before you buy it, because at age 20 you might get a shock! Insurance rates drop a lot when you reach age 25 without claims or crashes, so you might want to wait a few years before upgrading. Buy yourself some high-performance driver training, so you can enjoy the most performance and safety of every car you drive.
