Do I have enough tire tread?

I'm supposed to be going out of town on Friday morning (in 1 day) to Anaheim. It is about a 4 - 4 1/2 hour drive from where I live. I have 17 in. Rims with low profile tires on my car but the tread is pretty low on the tires. The tread is probably at about 2/32 or a little lower. There's still a little tread (tires are not completely bald) but I was just wondering if I would be able travel there and back without having a problem with the tires (as far as with the tread). I have heard as long as your not driving in rain I should be fine but I want some more input to see what other people think.

Car is a 2006 Honda Civic by the way.

If you are at 2/32 of tread remaining it is definitely time to go tire shopping. However, as long as your tires are not showing uneven wear, feathering, or dry rot they would still have enough integrity to be driven. Certainly don't push them, for they are indeed more susceptible to tire failure. And thank goodness the rains have moved out of the CA area because at 2/32 of tread you would also be very susceptible to hydroplaning.

A four and a half hour drive is a considerably long one, and you should be extra careful since the tread on your car's tires is low. Not only can it be dangerous to drive in the wet with tires with little tread or that are completely bald, but less tread will put your tires in danger of a blowout or becoming flat, especially at higher speeds such as on the freeway. Tires wear faster under hard acceleration, high speed, fast cornering, and heavy braking.

A good rule of thumb is to stick a penny in the tread with the top of Lincoln's head pointing to the center of the tire. If the tread isn't deep enough to come up to the top of Lincoln's head, you need new tires.

The legal tyre tread depth varies from country to country, and state to state In California it is 1/32" Tyre tread depth codes are set at a minimum considered safe for driving. As long as you keep to safe driving practices, you should have no problems.

Yeah you'll be fine. It's not raining here anytime soon as well. As long as they're not bald you're good.

  • Punctured tire replacement - can I replace only 1 tire - is it safe to replace the PUNCTURED tire only? My 2005 Honda Pilot rear left tire was punctured near the threshhold (ie - sidewall), but still usable. Thus the tire dealer patched it only. Should I replace that punctured tire only? Or should I replace the 2 tires on the same axle? Or even buy a whole set of 4 tires? I'm concerned about safety, and thus your best advice is very appreciated.
  • Am I tall enough to ride a Crf 250r? I really want a Honda Crf 250r and was wondering whether i'm tall enough or not. I'm 5'6 and 120 pounds. I'm not to experienced of a rider. I also was looking at a yz125 I know that it is a little taller but have also heard that a crf 250r is for the experienced rider. If i'm tall enough for both which one of these bikes would suit me better considering my skill level?
  • Does the HONDA 2012 City have the warning of low tire pressure? I do not have the manual but I heard about the warning system on HONDAS after 2008 have the warning when tires are low. Does the Honda City 2012 have that alarm?
  • What tire size do you have on your 2012 Honda CRV? I have the original equipment size which is 215/70R16. I'm thinking about putting a 225/65R17 or 225/60R18. I did a comparison online (tirerack.com) and looked at the pictures online. It both looks great, but hard for me to decide. Which do you think it's best for me
