Do you think is this a odometer fraud?

This guy selling his:

1994 honda civic ex coupe
25, xxx original miles
super clean interior and exterior (almost brand new)
5 speed
1.6L clean engine
asking $6500

i don't believe a 1994 car with 25, xxx miles on it

Added (1). and plus it doesn't worth $6500

Does the odometer actually work?

A 20 year old car with 25k miles on it. Wow
****, 2 year old cars have more.

could be.

If you are serious about the car, be sure to have a mechanic do a pre-purchase inspection before you commit. Do that with any used car: it can save you thousands. In this case, it would also be critical to know when the timing belt was changed; if it really has only 25K miles it probably has the original belt which should have been replaced 16 years ago.

$6500 is a lot to pay for any non-collectible car that is 23 years old, regardless of condition.

Hey it's possible. My dear but elderly mother only clocks up about 3,000 miles a year on her Corolla. Some people do even less.

But you are also right to be wary. Start by looking the the signs of wear. The rubber on the pedals / the floor mats / door handles etc. Look at the ownership papers, if it's genuine low mileage it's probably had the same owner for ~20 years. If it's had 5 or 6 owners, what's the odds that NONE of them racked up a few miles, See if it's got a service history?

And lastly, even if the mileage is genuine, that doesn't mean it's still a good car. Car's deteriorate with age, not just miles. Thing like brake cylinders, radiator hoses, electrical connections can all go bad while the car is just sitting around. Car could have been parked up in Granny's garage for 10 years or more? So a 1994 car with 25K miles is no where near as good as a 2014 car with the same mileage. That would make me reluctant to pay that much for something so old, unless it was something collectable, which a Honda Civic ex isn't.

Then don't buy it.

On a 23 year old car, it really doesn't make a difference.

That is an extremely low mileage for a car that is over 20 years old. I would be very skeptical of that being all the miles put on the car. Perhaps it has a new interior, and a new engine that only has 25K miles. That would be more believable.

You can't believe ANYTHING that a car seller says. His objective is to SELL the car, whatever it takes, whatever he has to say, even if it isn't true.

It could be possible. My mother owns a 2000 Chevrolet Malibu that just turned over to 60K miles today.

So MOVE On to the next car.
