Did you know that Philippines is so poor that if you own a car people will think you're rich?
I live in the Philippines and I own a 2013 Honda Fit and I sometimes drive it when I go to the University, it's not even expensive. And my friends think I'm rich. Most people here only use underbone motorcycles for transportation, most families don't even own a car.

This is the same around southeast asia. Owning a car is very expensive regardless if it is a Honda Fit or Toyota Yaris or equivalent. Many University Students don't finish their degrees because things happen, sickness, family etc. I have friends from the Philippines, they have been telling me stories for 35+ years. I visit Thailand often and of all the people I have met in 14 years I know 2 out of 15-20 persons who own cars. It's a luxury there too.
Upper middle class. Not rich. Were do you park a car there? To have a house with parking slot is not cheap. Down town & at the markets there's no parking. Only at the bigger malls. A car is mostly for trips. Taxi's are cheap. The jeepney takes you any were you wish to go. For 12 cents. Travel all day on the buss between towns for US $5. A car has limited use there. I have a scrum van. People know I'm not rich.

You could rent anything from a 15yo Honda with a manual trans to newer Teslas and BMWs. Any similar rental services?

I actually got 57MPG on a 70 mile drive but no one believes me? This is a regular Civic and not hybrid. They all claim I'm lying. Why do they think that? Well the trip computer on the car even says 57MPG and when I calculate it manually, it's almost spot on. When I take a photo and show it, they claim it was doctored or something.
