Flooring and Launching a CVT Trans?
Hi, i'm interested in launching my cvt transmission (honda civic 2016 specifically) but I wonder if it will damage my car? If I hold the brakes while reving the gas pedal then releasing the brake to get that launch feeling will it affect my car transmission? Also is it bad for the transmission to floor the gas?
From the source: "The very design of both a torque converter and CVT transmission make the kind of stress endured by a brake hold launch a very bad idea. There's a very specific reason why these cars have a tow rating of 0 lbs." Not bad to floor the gas but will cause accelerated wear if you hold it on the brakes while revving I have very little experience with CVT's. It's my personal opinion that they are not very strong. "Launching" a CVT is not what I would try. Chances of damage can be higher "Launching" on a CVT than on a regular automatic or standard transmission.
If you don't care about your vehicles then go ahead and keep treating them like disposable toys. Launch it all you like. Eventually it will launch its guts. ANY transmission abused will launch its guts. Now here's a fella that wants to walk everywhere! Yes, just do it over and over and over. I like CVTs… Have a Ford Taurus with AWD and CVT and it's great… The Ford unit (sharing a lot of tech with ZFs) uses stout chains… Many smaller cars uses belts. Whichever, they will last as long as a conventional automatic if properly maintained and not abused. The treatment you suggest will toast a normal automatic in due course… And a CVT much sooner. It costs about $7000 to replace the CVT in a Taurus at a Ford dealer… But we can assume less at a Honda dealership. (Few independent garages know how to deal with a CVT = Jiffy Lube even told me I could use conventional fluid in mine which would have been very expensive).

- Resistance when shifting from park to reverse? Automatic trans honda? There's resistance when shifting from park to reverse all the drive gears work fine shift good what could be the problem probably not the trans since when put In reverse it works fine help? It's hard basically to shift from park to reverse you have to fight it
- Is anti lock brake pump for automatic and manuel trans the same? 2005 honda accord ex v6 3.0 manuel If I buy anti lock brake pump for accord ex v6 automatic, would it fit on the same car but manuel transmission?
- Where is/are the jack point(s) on the engine in a '97 Honda CR-V, for replacing the engine and trans mounts? When replacing engine mounts in any vehicle, one step is to lift the engine slightly. On my '97 Honda CR-V, the bottom side of the engine appears to be mostly obscured by the oil pan. (Of course, trying to use the pan would result in disaster.) Images would be great… Detailed images with arrows, etc, would ROCK!
