Gas leak from the front of my car?

I have a 1996 Honda Civic. I was driving when I realized that my gas was draining and that I smelled gas. I got out and saw a trail of gas from where I was driving. The gas lead up to the front left of my car, where it was dripping. The gas was leaking a lot, not just in drips. There was a clear trail of gas. I also just got a new gas tank so it coudn't be that.

From the front of the car the gas can't be coming from the tank unless you have a corvair. More than likely it's your fuel filter, especially if your tank has been replaced, they probably pulled the line out of the filter. Just follow the line from the tank to the engine bay, you will see a cylindrical filter that the line runs in and out of. Turn your key to on position but don't start the car, the pump will prime and allow you to locate the leak. Simple and cheap fix if it's the filter.

The fuel line then goes from the filter to the fuel rail, all easy to see if they are leaking.

If none of those lines are leaking, check the fuel rail itself, though highly unlikely it is possible for the rail to leak, this is the most dangerous leak because it will be leaking directly onto the engine block.

If you just got a new gas tank that's a huge clue. Did one of the hose clamps get forgotten?

A leak in your fuel line some where… Either a bad connection or you have a hole somewhere

The gas travels through metal or plastic fuel lines right up the center of the car to the fire wall, in most cars. A fuel filter usually is connected and two rubber lines go from the fire wall to the fuel injection on top of the motor. Rubber lines crack and steel lines and filters rot and leak. You might just need a rubber line replaced or a fuel filter. Just don't drive it if it's leaking gas. It can easily catch on fire.

Well, if I were you, I'd get it fixed.

Do you have a question?

Fuel lines are never plastic, gas destroys plastic. They both came from the same source. Your issue can be from many different points. With out looking, it is all guessing.

Hi so now you are dicing with a potential bomb. Do not drive it call out a Honda dealer to take it and get it fixed.
