Honda Civic R18 oil consumption?
I bought this 2008 Civic LX with 103k miles! After driving several hundred miles I switched the oil and filter to Mobil 1 Advanced Full Synthetic 5W-20 Extended Performance. Along with an expensive Bosch filter! Now I understand its fairly high miles (although not for a Honda) but howcome its burned half a quart (or maybe a bit more) in less than 2k miles? At this rate ill be putting 1.5-2 qts of oil in between oil changes! The oil isn't cheap! Is there something wrong? My VW 2.5l with 110k doesn't burn a drop using Liqui-Moly 5W-40? Personally I don't think an engine burning this much oil at a little over 100k is gonna touch 300k miles and I don't beat it at all (just generally have to rev higher to shift going up the mountain--ts a dog of a car!)
You went with a lighter oil for one than this car requires, And full synthetic is not ffor all cars, you caused this.
Mobil1 is best oil in the world… But to be honest I would never use a 5-20 oil… Its like water… Only under arctic conditions would I consider 10-30… It 10-40 for me. And I own a garage in uk… Most oils we supply are 10-40. Some ask for 10-50. This was the most common oil for years here… And we go way longer than you guys between changes…12.000 minimum… AUDI have recently introduced every 2 years servicing… Two ways to check your engine wear.start engine… Remove oil filler cap… White chuffing smoke? Crankcase compression… Worn bores… Take car to top of hill let it run down the other side… Without touching throttle just on a trailing throttle… At bottom.boot it… Blue smoke? Worn bores… Me? I would change your oil to a thicker grade
Recommend following owners manual for proper engine oil and servicing. Ensure there are no leaks. If the engine is still consuming factory recommended oil then the engine will need to be tested for mechanical wear.
1 qt of oil in 4K mile is not oil consumption
oil consumpotion would be close to 1 qt or more in 1K mile
The 5w20 may be too light of viscosity for an engine with that many miles. Next time try 10w30.
- 2006 Honda Pilot oil stick showing low oil? The car has absolutely no obvious leaks and its not burning oil we bought a new stick and changed the oil but yet it's still (stick only) showing as low oil, what could be the issue? Is the stick (bought new one from dealership ) the issue or can it be leaking out somewhere that's not in plain view? I'm taking it to mechanic next week but I'm trying to see if I could get Tips Here first. The car runs perfectly fine, no obvious issues.
- Is it possible to convert fuel energy consumption to electricity consumption? Household electricity generators use liquid fuel to run the engine and generate electricity. Given a scenario, If a generator uses 2 litre of diesel per hour, is it possible to find out if that same generator was to run on electricity, how much watt the same generator would have used per hour. for example take this HONDA GX390 engine. PS: I have no idea on engineering side, just want to find out if it is possible, if yes, how to calculate.
- Is going from synthetic oil in my '03 HOnda Hybrid to regular oil bad? Over 100K miles, always used synthetic oil. Took the car to my mechanic to have brakes checked, and he thought the oil looked dirty so he drained it and put in regular oil. Now I'm concerned about my engine. Advice please? I do not know what kind of regular oil he put in.
