How long will this used car last me?

So I've been on the search for a used car and my friend referred me to someone who buy old cars, fixes them and then sells them again. He will sell me a used 2006 Honda Civic with 136,000 miles on it or $3,000. I don't do any crazy traveling anywhere just driving around town, how long do you think this car will last me? I don't know much about cars

You can realistically expect to get about one year of reliable transportation per $1,000. A $3,000 car should be able to get you around without any major issues for at least three years. 136,000 miles is not a lot for a Honda Civic. That could be a decent value.

I have bought 3000$ cars and mine lasted 3 to 10 years. I drive about 7 miles a week averaged.

BUT, You MUST take the vehicle to a Licensed Mechanic (preferably Honda certified) to have it surveyed. The 100$/200$ is well worth it. Know what you are buying into. There are No Warranties on an "As-Is" sale.

Since you know nothing about cars, you need to take the car to a mechanic to have it checked out. That is the ONLY way you will have any idea of how reliable it will be. Don't take the word of the seller about the car's condition. He might not lie to you but he also might not tell your everything you need to know.

Remember, used cars are sold "as-is" which means you buy the car without warranty, guarantee, or return rights. Once you're bought it, you own it, problems and all.
